The LG G2 for T-Mobile is now receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, which follows the release of Lollipop for the LG G3. As usual, the update will be rolled out in stages, so it may be a few days before it is available for download on your device. T-Mobile hopes to complete the Lollipop rollout for the LG G2 by May 22.

When you do receive an update, expect a filesize of about 617MB and the D80130b build number. As usual, it is recommended that you connect to Wi-Fi in order to avoid unnecessary data charges, and to ensure your battery is fully charged.

While T-Mobile has not provided an official changelog for the update, expect a new lockscreen experience, updated multitasking, enhancements to notifications, Improved battery life courtesy of Project Volta, Material Design inspired UI tweaks, smart lock, and more.

LG has already started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its current flagship, the LG G3. The update should reach most of the LG G3 users by the end of this year or early next year, leaving only the carrier versions to be updated.

Now a leaked screenshot shows that the LG G2 may also be updated to Lollipop very soon.

The LG G2 was released last year and features one of the best screen-to-body ratios in the industry. It offers a 5.2 inch IPS display with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, a 13MP rear camera with OIS, a 3000mAh battery, and a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU with 2GB of RAM. This made it one of the top choices for new smartphone users when it was released. You can currently buy the LG G2 for around $300 on Amazon.

The Lollipop update should give the LG G2 a brand new experience in the UI standpoint, as LG introduced a drastic overhaul to their Android custom skin when they launched the LG G3. This UI will be combined with the new Material Design elements and all the new features from Lollipop when the update arrives.

Judging by the screenshot, which is based on the LG G2 F320L for South Korea, we the LG G2 in Korea will be first in line for the update. This is the model which has 300Mbps LTE-A connectivity. Once this model receives Lollipop, we expect the update will quickly make its way across the other G2 variants.

The Google Nexus 5 is known for being one of the top picks for anyone looking for a powerful smartphone at at affordable price. Now Android fans can get their hands on an unlocked version of the LG G2 with 32GB of storage for just $240.

The LG G2 is the company's former flagship. It features a 5.2 inch full 1080p HD display, 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, a 2MP front camera, and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm with 2GB of RAM.

On the software side you get Android 4.4 KitKat, but it still runs the older version of LG's UI and not the new version that debuted with the LG G3. However you will get the popular LG features like Knock Code which allows you to quickly unlock your device without relying on the buttons which are located on its rear.

Before purchasing the device, it is important to note that the unit for sale on eBay is unlocked for US GSM and LTE bands, but it is a refurbished device. The D800 likely doesn't support T-Mobile's AWS HSPA bands, so you'll need to be in a 1900MHz re-farmed area to get 3G/HSPA+ connectivity. The seller does however promise to accept returns if anything goes wrong.Shipping is free in the US and there's no sales tax, unless you're in California.

One of the enhancement offered on the LG G3 was its Knock Code screen unlocking feature, which allows you to tap the screen in predefined locations to wake it and unlock instantly, even when the device was asleep. Knock code first debuted on the LG G Pro 2, but is now being offered for the LG G2 on Sprint as well.

The update will start rolling out today and will come in stages. If you don't receive the update notification immediately keep in mind that it may take a few days to arrive. You can manually check if the update is available for your device under Settings.

While the Knock Code feature maybe the only thing listed in this changelog, feel free to leave us a comment if you notice anything new with this update. The international LG G2, first started receiving the Knock Code update back in April, and its quite impressive that the Sprint carrier version is receiving the update so quickly. LG received a lot of attention when it released its very capable LG G2. This year the company has taken last year's flagship back to the drawing board, and the result is a well built powerful smartphone set to be one of top smartphones of this year. But is the LG G3 worth upgrading to if you are an LG G2 user?

All in all the LG G3 is an upgrade over the G2 in every way. However, the G2 has aged nicely, and offers an excellent value for the money, as it costs around 40% less than the G3. It’s also more compact and easier to use with a single hand, while the G3 maybe harder to handle with one hand, despite its amazing screen to body ratio.

The LG G2 for AT&T (D800) is now receiving the Knock Code update. Last month, saw the international LG G2 receive the much anticipated Knock Code update. Knock Code is an improved version of KnockOn which allows the user to create a locking pattern which can consist of two to eight on-screen taps.

The LG G Pro 2 was the first LG device to debut Knock Code while several LG devices have adopted this feature since then. The recently announced LG G3, which is the company's current flagship, also comes with Knock Code on board. LG also revealed that the LG G Flex will be getting it thanks to an upcoming update, too.

After you receive the update on your LG G2, the option to set a Knock Code unlocking pattern will appear in the lock screen settings of your G2. As usual, take into consideration that the update might not land on your G2 right away, but it will, eventually.

When the LG G2 was released last year, it had one of the fastest processors in the market in the Snapdragon 800 from Qualcomm. Since then, many new flagships have been announced sporting a newer and faster Snapdragon 801, one of which is the Sony Xperia Z2. Does the LG G2 still have what it takes to be called number one, or is it time for the device to bow out to a new crop of flagships?

The Xperia Z2 feels like the superior device in this battle of the 5.2-inch Android flagship phones. It’s got a sleek style to both its outwards appearance and software, a great overall performance, great camera and a super long lasting battery. In terms of design, the difference between the two is huge: the glass body of the Z2 gives it a decidedly premium appearance, while the G2 looks much more utilitarian with its glossy plastic shell. The LG G2 is also a great performer that does not lack much in processing power, but its design feels less refined and the camera is a bit less capable.

However, when it boils down to value-for-the-money, the LG G2 has got price on its side, as it can be found for an off-contract price of $400 (€350), while the Xperia Z2 can be had for a much heftier price north of $600 (€600). So if price is not a concern, the Xperia Z2 has got a clear advantage, but if you don’t want to pay the full cost of a new flagship, the G2 is one of the best value-for-the-money offers that still pack flagship-like specs.

When LG launched the LG G Pro 2, they introduced a new feature called Knock Code, which allowed the user to unlock their phones using a two to eight tap pattern which they could create. Now this feature is being pushed as an update to the international LG G2 (LG D802) units.

Back in March LG announced that the Knock Code feature would eventually be made available for the LG G2 and the LG G Flex, and that the rollout would be done in different time to different countries.

Kock Code is essentially an enhancement to the Knock On feature which was introduced with the LG G2. As LG has moved the physical keys on their new smartphones to the back of the device, they wanted users to be able to awaken their handsets when they were lying on the table with the screen-side up. With Knock On users were able to awaken their device by tapping twice on the screen (a feature available to Nokia's Lumia devices). Knock Code enhances this by allowing the user to create a (two to eight) tap pattern which they can use to unlock their device with an added level of security.

While we would have preferred a lower price than the suggested 350 USD or EUR the LG G2 retails for, we still have to agree that LG has managed to make an appealing mid range smartphone. The G2 mini will face its biggest competition in the form of the Google Nexus 5, which happens to be manufactured by the same company. The Nexus 5 comes with a 5 inch 1080p display, optically stabilized camera, and the promise for instant Android updates from Google.

For now, the biggest chance of its success will be in the hands of LG fans who are looking for an affordable alternative to the G2.

One of the greatest advantages of the LG G2 is the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology found on its cameras. OIS technology is also known for its popularity on Nokia's flagship Lumia devices. While it seems that OIS may be a requirement in modern smartphones, manufacturers like Apple and Samsung have achieved video stabilization digitally. So let's find out how will the digital stabilization on the Samsung Galaxy S5 fair against the OIS technology on the LG G2.

Both Android smartphones are top performers in several key areas. In terms of pricing, the LG G2 has the advantage of being around longer as it is free on contract and $465 contract free. Meanwhile the HTC One M8 will cost you $200 on contract and $650 contract free. While the One M8 may have the advantage of premium build quality and long lasting battery life, the 13MP Optical Image Stabilized camera on the G2 offers better results than the Duo camera setup.



At the end of the day, the camera may end up being the deciding factor between the two handsets.  If you happy with the M8 camera, you probably wont mind spending the extra money for the premium built device.

The LG G2 for Verizon is now receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat software update courtesy of the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant. The update brings Android 4.4.2 along with improved fonts and full-screen support, emoji keyboard tweaks, and severely improved performance throughout the device.

In order to install the update, you will have to manually sync your handset to a Windows PC and you'll be prompted to install software from the device including the "Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant Tool."

Follow the prompts to install Verizon and LG software onto your phone, and then run the software assistant. It will check for updates, and then install Android 4.4.2 on your LG G2. You could also consider waiting for the OTA (overthe-air) version of the update to hit your phone. Although no date for it has been announced by Verizon, the fact that the update is loaded on the software assistant could mean that the OTA update is imminent.

According to Verizon, with Android 4.4.2, color adjustment has been added, and magnification gestures have been relabeled "Touch Zoom". In fact, plenty of features have been renamed or relabeled with the KitKat update for Big Red's LG G2. "Shades" has been renamed "Screen Shades" and "Captions" has been added. "Touch Feedback Time" is the new name for "Touch and Hold Delay," while "Speak Passwords" has been changed to "Read Passwords." The "Power Button Ends Call" label has been renamed to "Power Key Ends Call" and lastly, the "Easy Access" label is now "Accessibility Settings Shortcut" label.

Android 4.4.2 brings changes to the indicator color, which is now white, and the latest location specs are now reflected. And with Android 4.4.2, basic Visual Voice Mail, with a 20 message mailbox, is now free. A premium version of Visual Voice Mail can now be purchased, which converts your voice mail to text, so that you can read it on the low down.

Verizon says that it will take 5 to 10 minutes to download the software, and another 5 to 10 minutes to install it. Keep in mind that you will not be able to make or take calls during the installation process. We also would suggest that you use a Wi-Fi connection to update your phone, and have your battery charged to at least 50%. Keep in mind that these updates are sent out on a staggered basis, which means that it might take a few days before you receive the update. If you have not received the OTA notification you can try to manually checking for the Android 4.4.2 by going to Menu Key > Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for Updates.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is clearly the biggest rival to the HTC One M8. Samsung has outfitted their newest flagship with value added features like a heart rate monitor and a fingerprint scanner. The handset also comes with a superior camera (based on preliminary tests), as images we have seen so far from it are richer in detail, and with a great color balance.

The Galaxy S5 is also water and dust resistant, something that the HTC One (M8) is not. Samsung’s phone is also slightly faster, and its TouchWiz user interface has its specific allure (TouchWiz alone is not an advantage in itself, though). The Galaxy S5 clearly emerges as a worthy HTC One (M8) alternative. To top things off Samsung will certainly put all the power of its marketing machine behind its latest flagship, something that HTC has failed to master with their handsets.

However keep in mind, though, that the Galaxy S5 is not available yet in retail stores - you’d have to wait until April 11th for that.

Sony may have switched to 6-month release cycles with its recent smartphones, and the Xperia Z2 fits in that pattern, coming just half a year after the Xperia Z1. In that short time span, Sony has managed to improve the Z1 greatly, fixing all the broken little pieces. First, the screen on the Xperia Z2 no longer suffers from poor viewing angles, a crippling issue that has persisted in the Xperia Z and Xperia Z1. 

Sony has also packed its flagship Android smartphone full with the latest specs, including a speedy Snapdragon 801 system chip with 3GB of RAM, while the HTC One (M8) features just 2GB. Sony also sticks to its excellent 20-megapixel camera with a large sensor, while HTC’s UltraPixel experiment seems to lack behind in terms of image quality. All of that makes the Xperia Z2 an excellent alternative to the HTC One (M8). Just as the Samsung Galaxy S5, though, the Xperia Z2 is not yet available in stores - it’s expected to launch around mid-April.

The LG G2 launched a few months back, but in that short period, LG has already slashed the price of the phone hugely. Now, you can get the G2 for a much lower price than the HTC One (M8), and still end up with a device with similar specs to HTC's flagship. The G2 has another trump card in the form of its 13-megapixel rear-facing camera (with optical image stabilization), which at first sight seems to have the slight edge over the UltraPixel (4-megapixel) camera on the One (M8). 

Price and camera make a strong case for the LG G2, but keep in mind that it’s plastic build is nowhere near as solid as the unibody aluminum HTC One (M8). If you want a larger device, you could consider the LG G Pro 2.

The Apple iPhone 5s remains the world’s most popular smartphone thanks to both Apple’s huge iOS ecosystem, its performance power and excellent craftsmanship. The iPhone 5s also has a much more compact footprint than any other high-end smartphone on the market. Compact, however, does not mean slow, and in fact the iPhone 5s is roughly on par with the new HTC One in terms of processing power. Both handsets are almost evenly matched in terms of design quality, so your choice will come down to size and platform preference - if you want to go Apple and prefer a compact phone, the iPhone 5s is an obvious choice, while if you prefer Android and a larger display, the new One is more suitable.

The LG G2 smartphones in Canada (including models sold by Rogers and Bell) are receiving the Android 4.4.2 software update. The update brings the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat along with the enhancements offered by LG, like Knock Code, which allows you to unlock your device with a series of taps.

Apple recently launched an 8GB version of their iPhone 5c, in an attempt to win over a wider audience with its affordable £429 off contract price. Despite its lower price, the 8GB iPhone 5c has some strong Android competitors which come with added advantages and sometimes even lower prices.

The LG G2 is a powerful device offered at a very affordable price. It has a 5.2 inch full 1080p display compared to the 4 inch Retina display (640x1136 pixel) on the iPhone. It also comes with a 13MP camera with optical image stabilization and a quad-core processor, compared to the 8MP camera and dual-core processor on the iPhone 5c.

The Nexus 5 is also built by LG and offers great value for its cost.  The device is priced between £299 and £339 on Google Play, offering a 5-inch display and the latest “pure” Android 4.4 KitKat, with speedy updates from Google in the future. You get an 8MP camera with optical image stabilization, but the camera has its share of issues, and battery life could be better.

The Sony Xperia Z1 has been succeeded by the Sony Xperia Z2, which is due to launch next month. Luckily this has resulted in Sony's previous flagship facing a discounted price. For £399 it’s still worth a look, offering a larger screen and double the storage of the cheapest iPhone 5c for less cash.

While HTC is readying their successor to the HTC One, the former flagship is being discounted to around £365 SIM-free. Unlike the iPhone 5c, it boasts a metal-backed design, a larger, higher-resolution display and four times the storage in the 32GB base model. The HTC One maybe a year old at this point, but it’s also worth remembering the iPhone 5c is essentially a rebadged iPhone 5 in a plastic casing.

The Motorola Moto X offers unique features like touchless control - the ability to activate the phone, even when it’s in sleep mode - and active display, which pulses notifications on-screen when the display is turned off. The handset costs around £306 for its 16GB model. While its specs may not match its competitors on paper, Motorola has optimized the hardware to handle its tasks as efficiently as most Android flagships. Moto X also offers a highly ergonomic design and near-stock Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
