After pushing out the
latest version of Android for the original Nokia 6, HMD Global has announced that they are now releasing Android 9.0 Pie for the
Nokia 2.1. As usual, the news comes from Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer of HMD Global via his Twitter page.
The Nokia 2.1 was announced back in 2018 running Android 8.1 Oreo Go edition. With the new Android 9 Pie (Go Edition), the Nokia 2.1 becomes one of the first Android Go Edition phones to get Pie update.
Android Go is a lightweight edition of Googles original Android OS designed for entry-level smartphones. It first launched under the Oreo OS, but Google has since released the Pie version of the Go OS, touting it as a more efficient version bringing additional storage, faster boot times, better security, among other things.
The Nokia 2.1 features a 5.5-inch display with a 720 by 1280 pixel resolution, 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, a 4000mAh battery and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor with 1GB of RAM.
This leaves the Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 1 as the final few handsets in HMD's lineup to be updated to Android Pie. HMD is ambitiously hoping to have their entire lineup running Android Pie by the end of Q2 2019.
The Nokia 8.1 is an Android smartphone which features a 6.2-inch, 64GB of internal storage with microSD, dual (12MP+13MP) rear cameras, a 20-megapixel front camera, a fingerprint scanner, a 3500mAh battery and a Snapdragon 710 chipset with 4GB of RAM.
