Nokia 6 receives Android 9.0 Pie update

The Nokia 6 was the first Nokia branded smartphone from Finnish startup HMD Global back in 2017. You can still find the handset up for sale at very affordable prices. Starting today the original Nokia 6 is receiving its official Android 9.0 Pie software update.

The news was posted on Twitter by HMD Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas.

The Nokia 6 (2017) features a 5.5-inch display, 32GB of internal storage with microSD, a 16-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, a fingerprint scanner, dual-SIM and a Snapdragon 430 chipset with up to 4GB of RAM.

It launched with Android Nougat and was updated to Android Oreo a little over a year ago. It even went on to receive the Android 8.1 update last Spring as HMD kept its commitment to keep its lineup “pure, secure, and up to date” for as long as possible. The Nokia 6 now joins devices like the Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 7.1, and Nokia 7 Plus to offer the latest version of Android.

This leaves the Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 2.1 and Nokia 1 as the final few handsets in HMD’s lineup to be updated to Android Pie. HMD is ambitiously hoping to have their entire lineup running Android Pie by the end of Q2 2019.
