Samsung Galaxy Note 9 for Sprint receives Android 9 update

After pushing the Android 9.0 Pie software update to AT&T customers, the latest version of Android is now being pushed out to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on Sprint.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 for Sprint receives Android 9 PieThe update reportedly carries the N960USQU1CSAA version number and is being pushed out to Sprint customers OTA (over-the-air).

Once you receive the update notification, it is recommended that you make sure the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi signal and that the battery is fully charged. If you haven't seen an OTA notification yet, you can try manually checking for the update under Settings > System updates > Check for system updates. Once you see the update click on Download now and select Install update.

With Android 9.0 Pie, your handset should gain features like improved notifications, app slices,  an updated 'Do Not Disturb', Adaptive Brightness and Battery Enhancements, Digital Wellbeing, App Actions, An Improved Recent Apps View, Rotation Controls, an easier way to take screen-shots, indoor location tracking, and a new gesture-based navigation. Additionally, you will be getting Samsung's new One UI interface which will be the company's future adaptive interface for Android.

With Xfinity Mobile and Verizon rolling out Android 9.0 Pie for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ users on their respective networks, it was a matter of time before the others followed. The next in line appears to be the "Now Network" Sprint.

While Sprint themselves haven't released an official changelog, the news of the availability of the update comes from SamMobile and Reddit. Several customers are reportedly receiving the latest version of Android over-the-air. The size of the update could vary in size, depending on whether you participated in the public beta program on either device.

Once you receive the update notification, it is recommended that you make sure the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi signal and that the battery is fully charged. If you haven't seen an OTA notification yet, you can try manually checking for the update under Settings > System updates > Check for system updates. Once you see the update click on Download now and select Install update.

The deal on Best Buy involves a monthly installment plan and bill credits. Best Buy is even throwing in an additional $50 discount. So in order to get the Sprint variant of the handset, you will have to make 24-monthly payments of $2.91 to cover its $69.84 cost. You will get a $10 monthly bill credit applied to your account over that period of two years.

If you wish to pay the cost of the LG V30 upfront at Best Buy, you can make a one-time payment of $360 and activate the device on the same day, or $397.99 if you wish to activate it at a later time.


The LG V30+ packs quite a powerful set of hardware, which includes a 6.0-inch display, up to 128GB of internal storage with microSD expansion, dual (16MP+13MP) rear cameras, a 5-megapixel front camera, a 3300mAh battery, fingerprint scanner and a Snapdragon 835 chipset with 4GB of RAM.

This brings the price of this powerhouse down to only $6.95 a month after instant savings and bill credits.

The offer is available to both new activations and eligible upgrades on Sprint. Well qualified customers won't require any down payments either. No specific expiration date has been listed at this time.

The "affordable" Apple iPhone XR is now available to pre-order, and will be available for purchase in a week. The handset features a 6.1 inch LCD display, single 12MP rear camera, dual-SIM capability Face ID and an Apple A12 chipset. The handset has an aluminum and glass design, and will be available in black, white, blue, yellow, coral and Red.

So why exactly is Apple offering the iPhone XR at a lower price than its premium iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max ?  - The iPhone XR has an LCD screen, while the XS and XS Max feature OLED displays. The iPhone XR has no 3D Touch, unfortunately, and its bezel is slightly bigger.  Apple has also opted to use stainless steel on their premium iPhones, while the iPhone XR features uses 4000 series aluminum. Additionally the iPhone XR features a single rear camera instead of dual cameras, but it is still capable of Portrait Mode photos by digitally applying the background blur (bokeh) effect.

Apple iPhone XR - US Availability

The Apple iPhone XR can be pre-ordered in the US starting Friday, October 19 at 12:01 a.m. PST with availability beginning Friday, October 26.

While Apple doesn't offer an unlocked iPhone XR directly for purchase, purchasing the T-Mobile version (A1984) at full price would be compatible on any carrier in the US, including Verizon and Sprint.

Verizon

Verizon customers will also be able to pre-order the iPhone XR starting today from its online store. Units will be available in its physical stores on October 26.

Purchasing the iPhone XR on Verizon will cost the following:
  • 64GB iPhone XR will be $31.24 per month for 24 months on device payment ($749.99 retail);
  • 128GB iPhone XR will be $33.33 per month for 24 months on device payment ($799.99 retail);
  • 256GB iPhone XR will be $37.49 per month for 24 months on device payment ($899.99 retail).
Verizon also announced a couple of promos that should make it easier for customers to upgrade to an iPhone XR
  • Buy any iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max or iPhone X on the Verizon device payment plan and get up to $750 off a second iPhone XR or iPhone X. This will require activating at least one new line of service and the phone must be of lesser or equal value. Discounts will be applied via monthly bill credits over 24 months.
  • Purchase the iPhone XR or other iPhone on Verizon's device payment plan and receive $100 off device payment on an iPad, and $50 off device payment on an Apple Watch. You are limited to one tablet and one smartwatch per qualifying smartphone purchase.
  • Get 25% off on a new case which you purchase one between 10/19 and 10/25. No smartphone purchase needed to get this discount.
