This is an interesting one coming from T-Mobile. Just a few months after the carrier force-migrated over 8 million customers onto more expensive plans, it is now rolling out one of the most aggressive iPhone launch promotions of the year to attract new ones. The "iPhone 18 Pro On Us" campaign runs this weekend only, September 26 and 27 2026, and offers up to $1,200 in promotional bill credits, which covers the iPhone 18 Pro's full $1,199 retail price. On paper that is a free iPhone. In practice there is a bit more to it.
How to Qualify
T-Mobile is offering two routes to the full $1,200 credit. The first is switching from another carrier and porting your existing number to a new line on the Experience Beyond, Experience Beyond 2.0, or Go5G Next plans. No trade-in required if you go this route. The second is trading in an eligible prior-generation smartphone, and this is where T-Mobile separates itself from the competition: the trade-in is accepted in any condition, including cracked screens and worn batteries, as long as the device can power on and is free of activation locks.
That any-condition trade-in clause is genuinely significant. Apple Trade In and most third-party buyback services will heavily discount a damaged phone, sometimes to the point where it is barely worth handing over. T-Mobile is effectively saying that does not matter this weekend, which makes this accessible to a lot of people who would normally be stuck holding a device with limited resale value.
If you are currently on Verizon and considering a switch, it is worth reading our Verizon Simplicity Plan review and our full carrier comparison across Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile before making any decisions. A free phone is only a good deal if the plan it comes with works for you long term.
Read the Fine Print
The $1,200 is not handed to you at the register. It is distributed as monthly bill credits across a 36-month Equipment Installment Plan, specifically T-Mobile's EIP Flex 36 agreement. If you cancel service or drop to an ineligible lower-tier plan before those 36 months are up, the remaining device balance becomes due immediately. That is a three year commitment to one of T-Mobile's top-tier unlimited plans, which is worth factoring into the real cost of this deal.
You will also owe sales tax on the full $1,199 retail price upfront at the point of purchase, plus a one-time $35 device connection fee per line. T-Mobile does offer the option to roll those initial costs into the financing agreement for well-qualified applicants, which eliminates out-of-pocket expenses at the register if that applies to you.
What You Are Getting
The promotion covers the base 128GB iPhone 18 Pro in all four launch colours: Burgundy, Glacier Blue, Silver, and Black. The iPhone 18 Pro runs on Apple's A20 Pro chip built on a 3-nanometer process, with a 48MP Pro Fusion camera system, tactile shutter speed and white balance controls, a more compact Dynamic Island, and hardware-accelerated Apple Intelligence features throughout.
Compared to what Verizon and AT&T are currently offering at launch, which typically restrict full credits to pristine trade-ins, T-Mobile's willingness to take damaged devices makes this the most accessible promotion of the three this weekend. Whether it is the right deal for you still comes down to how comfortable you are locking into a premium unlimited plan for three years. If you are already planning to do that, this weekend is the best time to make the move.
