Apple recently released iOS 7.1 which brings some big improvements to Siri and iTunes Radio while also introducing CarPlay – the company’s in-car flavor of iOS. But for some iOS 7 users, especially those using the Apple iPhone 4, the update brought forth some significant speed improvements and snappiness which was lost following the iOS 7.0 release back in September.
On iOS 6.1.3, the iPhone 4 could load up the mobile Safari browser in 1.13 seconds, but by the time iOS 7.0 came around, it was taking 2.03 seconds – almost doubling the time. One extra second, in smartphone terms, can feel like a lifetime, so you can imagine how bad it has been for iPhone 4 users, particularly given that cold booting times increased from 31 seconds towards the tail end of iOS 6 to a whopping 45 seconds on iOS 7.0.
But while iOS 7.1 hasn’t been completely remedial in that none of the app-launching or boot-up response times are back to what they were with iOS 6.1.3 – with the exception of Messages – things have still noticeably improved. In tests performed by Ars Technica, the likes of the Settings app, which jumped from 1.31 seconds on iOS 6.1.3 to 1.88 seconds on iOS 7, is now back down to a more respectable 1.37 on iOS 7, and at 1.5 seconds, the Messages app is actually slightly snappier than it ever was back on iOS 6.
As well as seeing to app-launching, iOS 7.1 is said to improve upon issues related to "UI jerkiness," according to the report, and on the whole, iOS 7.1 is a great deal smoother for iPhone 4 users than iOS 7.0 was.
So, if you're using an iPhone 4 which you have updated to iOS 7.0, you’ll definitely want to download the iOS 7.1 update as soon as possible.

After releasing iOS 7.0.3 some weeks ago a follow-up was widely expected in the form of iOS 7.0.4 or iOS 7.1. Now you can download the update over-the-air (OTA), through iTunes, or manually through the following links.
The only reason you would likely want to keep from updating your device is the possibility of jailbreaking it - at least until we get some kind of clarification from an experienced hacker or developer. We already know that every version up until iOS 7.0.4 has been safe to update to for those holding out hope of a future untethered jailbreak, and so before you go ahead and push to iOS 7.0.4, just wait for the follow-up post that will confirm either way.
[UPDATE Nov 15] Jailbreak guru @MuscleNerd has taken to his Twitter page to inform users wishing to jailbreak that it is safe to update to iOS 7.0.4.

Apple has just released the iOS 7.0.4 software update for compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices. The newest version of Apple's mobile operating system has faced its share of issues with users, and Apple has been working hard at fixing these issues which includes tethering issues and some security holes.
After releasing iOS 7.0.3 some weeks ago a follow-up was widely expected in the form of iOS 7.0.4 or iOS 7.1. Now you can download the update over-the-air (OTA), through iTunes, or manually through the following links.
As expected, the update brings several bug fixes, performance enhancements, and general housekeeping updates. So, if you've been experiencing any issues with your device, it’s highly recommended you go ahead and update immediately. Of course, even if you've not encountered any problems, it’s always best to run the latest version, since even if the aforementioned changes aren't exactly overwhelming, the most recent release tends almost always to be the least susceptible to bugs.

Yesterday Apple announced iOS 7.0 at the WWDC 2013 keynote, with a new user interface and several new features and improvements. The first beta of iOS 7.0 is already out to developers but the final version is not expected to be released to the public until later this fall.
This isn't the first time Apple has omitted iOS features from older devices. Last year we saw that the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S were the only two devices to receive all the features of iOS 6.0. If you want to have all of the iOS 7 features, we suggest investing in an Apple iPhone 5 or waiting for the next iPhone which will likely be launched this fall alongside the new iOS.

- Download iOS 6.0 and install it only your device either automatically OTA or manually using iTunes
- Download and extract the latest version of Redsn0w for your device (Windows | Mac OS)
- Open the extracted folder and run the executable Redsn0w file as administrator (Ctrl+Click) on Windows or simply open it on your Mac.
- Select ‘Extras’ from the main menu, Click ‘Select IPSW’ and point it to the relevant IPSW file you downloaded in Step 1.
- Follow the onscreen instruction to set your device into DFU mode and allow Redsn0w to complete the jailbreak process.
Installing Cydia
This release of Redsn0w doesn’t have Cydia installed by default and it will have to be added manually onto your jailbroken device. You can perform the following steps using Terminal on your Mac or an SSH application like WinSCP on Windows.
- Make note of your iOS device IP address
- You can do this by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and clicking the blue arrow next to your connected Wi-Fi.
- Connect your device to your Mac and type
- ssh root@192.168.X.X (enter your IP address in its place)
- When prompted enter the root password – alpine
- Then type
wget -q -O /tmp/cyinstall.sh http://downloads.kr1sis.net/cyinstall.sh && chmod 755 /tmp/cyinstall.sh && /tmp/cyinstall.sh
- Windows Users will have to manually download the latest Cydia.deb file from here.
- Launch WinSCP on your computer. Click ‘New’ and type your device IP address in the ‘Host name’ field. Type ‘root’ under ‘User name’ and ‘alpine’ under ‘Password’. You can Save and click ‘Login’.
- On the right-side pane which opens, navigate to the ‘User’ folder inside the root directory of your device.
- Now use the left-pane to locate the cydia.deb file you downloaded and drag it from the left-pane to the right-pane.
- Click on Terminal in the WinSCP toolbar and type the following command.
dpkg -i /User/Cydia.deb - Press ‘Enter’ to finish installing Cydia on your device.
Booting into tethered mode
Since this is a tethered jailbreak you will have to boot into tethered mode, every time you reboot your device to retain your jailbreak. To do this:
- Connect your device to your computer
- Run Redsn0w
- Select Extras and Click Just Boot
- Follow the onscreen instructions and you will be booted into tethered jailbreak mode.

The update will be available for download OTA (Over-the-Air) and users will receive a notification asking if they want to install the update. It’s been over five years since we met the first iPhone which Steve Jobs described as a combination of three devices – A “widescreen iPod with touch controls”, a “revolutionary mobile phone” and a “breakthrough Internet communicator”.
Today as we get ready to welcome the sixth generation iPhone into our lives, lets take a look at the iPhone announcements over the years.
The first iPhone was unveiled by then CEO Steve Jobs on January 2007 and was subsequently released on June 29, 2007. The device was marketed under the slogan “Apple reinvents the phone”.
The iPhone 3G was the second generation iPhone which was introduced on June 9, 2008 along side iOS 2.0 and the Apple App Store. It included new hardware features, like 3G connectivity and Assisted GPS along with several software improvements like Push email and turn-by-turn navigation
The iPhone 3GS, the third generation iPhone was introduced on June 8, 2009. As its ‘S’ in its name indicates, the 3GS is all about speed. It also introduced video capturing and voice control features.
The iPhone 4, the company’s fourth generation iPhone was introduced on June 7, 2010 alongside iOS 4.0. It introduced new features like its Retina Display, Facetime video calls and an all new design. It also featured a significant speed and performance boost over its predecessor.
Apple introduced their fifth generation iPhone 4S on October 4th, 2011 alongside iOS 5.0. This time the ‘S’ branding referred to Apple’s voice recognition system Siri. The iPhone 4S also featured several speed and performance improvements.
And this brings us to today, October 12, 2012 as we get ready to usher in the sixth generation iPhone. We aren't sure how Apple will choose to name their new device, but we are sure we will be treated to a few surprises.

With a new iPhone is expected to be announced next month, and as you would expect the current generation iPhones including the Apple iPhone 4 and the Apple iPhone 4S. Sprint was the first to offer the discounts and now Best Buy and Target have followed suit.
Sprint is offering the iPhone 4S at a $50 discount allowing you to get the 16GB version of $149.99 with a two year contract. Sprint is also waiving the $36 activation fee which means you will get an $86 savings on your new iPhone. Rumors suggest that Apple will be matching Sprint’s pricing on the iPhone 4S, however we aren't certain when this pricing change will come into effect.
Meanwhile Target is offering the 16GB iPhone 4S for$179.99 $149.99 on contract while Best Buy is offering the iPhone 4 for $50 on contract.
While these discounts are appealing for users looking to get a good deal on the iPhone, it is important to remember that Apple will discount all their existing iPhones, once the new iPhone starts to ship.
