Apart from this, the interface of the SuperSU app has been slightly refreshed in accordance with the Material Design guidelines. Chainfire says that he's made only slight improvements over the previous layout, as the full adoption of Material Design is not "a top priority at the moment".

Chainfire reveals that it has been quite hard to find a viable workaround for hopping over the hurdles that Google has implemented in SELinux, along with everything else that prevented SuperSU from gaining root access. However, the app might still have issues with some of the early unofficial Lollipop builds that have surfaced for select Android warriors of late.

Chainfire’s root solution has finally been published after being tested on the Galaxy S5's retail firmware, and initially supported only on International version of the model.

• Backup all your data on your device. You can follow our guide on "How to perform a backup of your Android device to PC without rooting".
• Make sure your battery is fully charged

Guide to root your Samsung Galaxy S5 on Android 4.4.2

1. Download Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root package from the above link, extract the zip file so you are left with the .tar.md5 file.
   -
2. Make sure your device is not connected to computer, run run Odin3-v3.0.7.exe previously installed.
   -
3. Click the PDA button, before selecting CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.tar (the file you extracted in Step 1).
   -
4. As usual, place your device into Download Mode. To do this, switch your device off, then hold Volume Down + Home + Power.
   -
5. Next, connect your device to your computer, and ensure that ‘repartition‘ is unchecked. Hit Start.
   -
6. Finally, Android will boot, and you’ll be rooted on Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

In order to install the ported Smart Keyboard, you will need to have a rooted device running Android 4.4 KitKat. Note that if you are using an LG G2, your old keyboard will be overwritten, so if you don't want to lose it, better back it up.

The Smart Keyboard comes with improved contextual recognition, which reportedly decreases the margin for input errors by 75%, and a fair amount of customization, which enables owners of the G3 to change its on-screen height and bind symbols to buttons. Although most of the keyboard's features are not unique, it's always good to see that a manufacturer is trying to treat its users to the best possible experience.

1) How to unlock the Moto E

You can unlock your Moto E bootloader by heading to Motorola's own support page. The Moto E is the first among such budget devices to receive an official unlock method by the manufacturer itself. If you face any issues, you can check out our guide on how to unlock the bootloader on the Moto X or Moto G for assistance.


2) How to root the Moto E

Once you have your device unlocked, it is time to flash the TWRP custom recovery and root your device with Super SU. Those who need help doing these steps can follow our step by step guide below

1. Download and extract mfastboot-v2 to your computer;
   -
2. Download the TWRP custom recovery for Moto E, rename the file to recovery-twrp.img, and place it in the folder where you extracted the mfastboot-v2;
   -
3. Download SuperSU and copy it to the base folder on your Moto E;
   -
4. Connect your Moto E to your computer, press Volume Down + Power for a few seconds;

5. On your computer open a command prompt and navigate to the folder you extracted mfastboot-v2

Thanks to the work of renowned developer Chainfire, the Nexus 5 has already been rooted using the latest version of CF-Root. The step by step instruction of how to do this follows:

Ensure you backup your device before you continue

Your first step is to unlock the device. You can do this by connecting your device to a computer with the Android SDK, enter fastboot mode, and type "fastbook oem unlock" into a terminal window.

1. Download CF Autoroot and extract it to your computer
2. Boot your device in bootloader/fastboot mode.
3. Turn off device and Press Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons together
4. To install on Windows
• Run root-windows.bat
5. To install on Mac
• chmod +x root-mac.sh
• Run root-mac.sh
6. To install on Linux
• chmod +x root-linux.sh
• Run root-linux.sh

The device, which became available just last month, carries the top of the line processor, hardware and software available right now, and offers a user experience second to none in the Note lineup of devices.

The root for Galaxy Note 3 also comes from the renowned Chainfire, whose auto-root has served a viable, working solution for a lot of Android devices. 9. Click the Start button and wait for Odin3 to finish flashing the PDA. The phone will reboot as the process completes.

It didn’t take long for the developer community to release a rooting and unlocking guide for the Samsung Galaxy S4 on Verizon. But a couple of weeks ago, Verizon released a new software update (VRUAME7) for the Galaxy S4, which also ended up closing the exploit which was used and re-locking the device.

Now the XDA developer community have come up with a new method to root your Samsung Galaxy S4 running the VRUAME7 update.

[NOTE] We do not recommend rooting your device unless you are well aware of the risks that come with it. Please note that your device can malfunction or you could loose data if you do not understand what you are doing, so proceed at your own risk.

[NOTE] If you happed to brick your phone, or come across any other issues you can download the original stock ROM from here and flash it onto your device using the ODIN program.

[NOTE] This method to rooting your device belongs to its developers who you can credit by following the source link at the end of this page.

[NOTE] This is a ROOT ONLY method. There is currently no way to unlock the bootloader. This means you wont be able to install a custom kernel or get Google Wallet to work

[NOTE] You also need a microSD memory card that is formatted by your PC as exFAT, not FAT32.

• Download and Install Samsung Official USB Drivers.
• Download and Install Android Terminal Emulator on your device.
• Download the extract the Root Exploit package on your computer.

Prepare your microSD card

1. Insert a microSD into your device [REQUIRED]
   -
2. Make sure it is formatted as exFAT (not FAT32) [VERY IMPORTANT]
   -
3. If you have a 64GB microSD card you can use your phone to format it as exFAT by default directly from the Storage settings.
   -
4. If you have anything less than 64GB microSD card you may have to use the computer to format it manually as exFAT
   [NOTE] If your microSD card is not formatted as exFAT you will see "permission denied" errors when running the exploit.
   -
5. Once formatted, move all files and folders from the Root Exploit package directly onto the root of your microSD card (nowhere else)

Rooting your device

1. Open the Android Terminal Emulator app on your phone.
   -
2. Run the following 3 commands one after another (capital letters are important) cd /mnt/extSdCard
   ./pwn
   ./script.sh
   -
3. After running the second command you should have seen your $ change to a # meaning you have root access.
   -
4. The third command is required to make this root access permanent.
   -
5. After all 3 commands are done, close the Terminal app and check if SuperSU has any update in the Play Store.
   -
6. Open SuperSU app and let the binary update itself to the latest (if any updates are available).
   -
7. Once complete, just open a root application and verify that is able to access root properly.
   -
8. Reboot your device one time and confirm you still have root acess.
   -
9. If all is well you should now be fully rooted on the stock VRUAME7 build of your phone
   [NOTE] Make sure to avoid all future OTA's to prevent this root method from being patched.

Google promised that the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software update is on its way for Nexus devices. However Google has also released the factory images of Android 4.3 for the Google Nexus 4, Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus 10 and Google Galaxy Nexus.

If you are impatient to wait for the OTA (over-the-air) update to arrive for your device and do not rely on a root, you can proceed with downloading the factory images and flashing them on your Nexus devices. Keep in mind however that installing these images will fully wipe your device as they are not update packages.

The driver binaries for these devices with corresponding Android version (4.3) are also available at developers.google.com/android/nexus/drivers, which should allow developers to build their own custom ROMs based on the latest version of Android.

The Android 4.3 update is also being pushed to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) today. This should allow Android 4.3 to pushed to owners of non-Nexus devices as well through the Android developer community.

You can download the official factory images for the Nexus devices using the more convenient list which follows. The new Google Nexus 7 which comes with Android 4.3 out of the box is missing factory images at this point, but should get it eventually.

Flashing VRUAMD2 Pre-release kernel to remove boot block

1. Boot your device into ODIN mode
   • Make sure your device is completely off
   • While holding the Volume Down key simultaneously press the Power button until you see a disclaimer on the screen
   • Then let go of both buttons and press Volume Up to accept the disclaimer
   • Once the green robot is visible on the screen this indicates that handset is in now ODIN/Download mode
     -
2. Flash the VRUAMD2 Prerelease Kernel using ODIN v3.07 ***in PDA section only***. You can check out our guide on how to flash your device using Odin here.

3. Boot back to Android and verifying everything is still working and kernel has flashed successfully

Rooting your device

1. Go into Settings > More > About phone > tap "Build number" about 7 times until it unlocks Developer options.
   -
2. Verify in Developer options setting on your device that you have "USB debugging" checked.
   -
3. Verify in Developer options setting on your device that you have "Verify apps via USB" unchecked.
   -
4. Verify in Security setting on your device that you have "Unknown sources" checked.
   -
5. Verify in Security setting on your device that you have "Verify apps" unchecked.
   -
6. Connect your phone to your computer and open "Run.bat" file from the location you have extracted motochopper.
   -
7. You will see a message on the phone asking you to accept the new computer connection (select to always allow and select OK)
   -
8. After motochopper runs and your phone reboots on its own, check if SuperSU has any update in the Play Store.
   -
9. Open SuperSU app and let the binary update itself to the latest ***VERY IMPORTANT OR YOU WILL LOSE ROOT IN THE NEXT STEP***

10. Once complete, just open a root application and verify that is able to access root properly.

Restoring VRUAMDK stock kernel

1. Boot phone into ODIN mode
   -
2. Flash the VRUAMDK Stock Kernel using ODIN v3.07 ***in PDA section only***. You can check out our guide on how to flash your device using Odin here.
   -
3. Boot back to Android and verifying everything is still working and kernel has flashed successfully.
   -
4. After your phone boots back to Android, you should now be fully rooted and on the fully original stock firmware as the device came

After you complete these steps your device will be rooted. You can also check out the following video for help with the rooting process



Unlock Bootloader & Install custom recovery

The next steps require you to unlock your bootloader and install custom recovery on your Galaxy S4. You will need to be comfortable using a command prompt to issue ADB commands. The ADB program is generally a part of the Android SDK but is located in your "motochopper-supersu" folder for your convenience.

• Download SCH-I545_CWM_LOKI_v1.1.zip and extract its contents

Place the two files "recovery.lok" and "loki_flash" on your phone in the "/data/local/temp" directory. You can do this using a program called Root Explorer.

With your Galaxy S4 connected to your PC, you'll need to open a Command Prompt and change to the directory (motochopper-supersu) where the "adb.exe" file is located, and type the following commands:

adb shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/loki_flash
/data/local/tmp/loki_flash recovery /data/local/tmp/recovery.lok

If you are successful, you should see the following message

[+] Loki validation passed, flashing image.
2253+1 records in
2253+1 records out
9230848 bytes transferred in 0.656 secs (14071414 bytes/sec)
[+] Loki flashing complete!

Now you can turn off your device. Once you have switched it off, you can enter ClockWorkMod Recovery by pressing and holding the Volume UP & Power key at the same time. When you see small blue text in on the top of the screen that says Recovery, release the Power key and the Volume Up key. It will now boot into ClockWorkMod Recovery.
 
How to enable Google Wallet on your Galaxy S4
As you can imagine, Google Wallet will stop working on the rooted Galaxy S4.  You can get Google Wallet to work again by following these steps:

1. Download the latest version of Google Wallet (R96 v16) TouchWiz ONLY.
   -
2. Make sure you have no Google Wallet pre-installed (go to step 4), or if you do, reset data on it.
   -
3. Once you have reset the data, go to the Wallet app in your Application Manager.
   -
4. If you see "Uninstall Updates", select that button, but if you see "Disable" button leave it alone.
   -
5. Using Root Explorer and text editor, navigate to /system on the phone and change build.prop lines to correspond to this
   ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
   ro.product.name=yakju
   ro.product.device=maguro
   -
6. Keep an old version of build.prop as a backup.
   -
7. Copy the TouchWiz Wallet zip file for the mod to your phone /SD Card.
   -
8. Reboot into your recovery and flash the Google Wallet zip mod.

9. Boot back into the OS and open Xposed Installer app (should be installed after flash).
   -
10. Select "Install/Update" and allow root access if it asks.
    -
11. Reboot your device.
    -
12. Download and install Paul's Xposed Wallet apk.
    -
13. Launch Xposed Installer app again and go to the "Modules" tab.
    -
14. Enable the module by checking the checkbox for it.

15. Reboot your device again.
    -
16. Now open Google Wallet and setup everything as needed (PIN/Security/Cards, etc...).

17. After it is all setup and working, change your modified build.prop back to the original below lines

Facebook Home was released today to select Android devices bringing a whole new experience on your Android handset. Unfortunately the list of supported Android handsets are quite small and the app is restricted only to customers in the U.S.

So if you are someone who wants to try out Facebook Home outside of the U.S. on any unsupported Android device you can follow our step by step guide below.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Note II, Samsung Galaxy S IV, HTC One X, HTC One X+. or an HTC One. Your device is compatible with Facebook Home. However since the app is not available to users outside of the U.S. you can download the apk file using the following link


Before installing the file make sure you have unknown sources enabled under Settings > Security on your device.

Getting Facebook Home to work on unsupported devices is a little tricky and will require your device to be rooted. You will also have to modify system files who could result in device malfunction or loss of data if done improperly. Please note that you are proceeding at your own risk.

When a new smartphone comes along it has almost become customary for the dev-community to find a root for it. In some cases, you wont even have to wait for the actual device to come out, because renowned developer Chainfire has rooted the Samsung Galaxy S4 with a fully working auto-root mechanism.

2. Place your Galaxy S4 in Download Mode using the correct button combination
   -
3. Launch Odin3 on your computer and connect your device to the computer while it is in Download Mode using the USB cable. Odin will detect the connection and indicate a COM port on top.

4. Under PDA, select the .tar.md5 file that you extracted from Chainfire Auto-Root package. 
• Make sure that Re-Partition is unchecked,  
• Hit the Start button and begin the flash process
  [NOTE] Make sure you dont touch anything at this time

5. Once the flashing is complete, the device will automatically reboot with a red Android logo, after which you will have root access.
   -
6. If your device boots without the red Android, manually reboot into recover to initiate the process

[NOTE] You will have you unlock your Nexus 4 bootloader before you proceed. You can find a guide on how to unlock your Nexus 4 bootloader here.

• Download and install the required USB Drivers for your Nexus 4. These USB drivers are required for Windows computer users.
• Download and install the Android SDK
• Backup the data from your device.
• Enable USB Debugging Mode on your device
• Settings > About Phone  and press Build number 7 times
• Go back to Settings > Developer options and enable the USB debugging checkbox.
• Have your Nexus 4 bootloader unlocked.
• Ensure that your battery is (near) fully charged.

    How to root Nexus 4 on Android 4.2.2 JDQ39 Jelly Bean

1. Download SuperSU-v1.04-Nexus4-Update.zip to root your Nexus 4.
   -
2. Connect your device to your computer and make sure you have USB Debugging enabled.
   -
3. Copy the downloaded file to the SD card (or root) of your device.
   -
4. Now switch your device off.
   -
5. Download CWM 6.0.23 and save it to the ..android-sdk\platform-tools folder. (source)

6. Turn your device back on using Volume Down + Power button to enter Fastboot Mode.
   -
7. On your computer navigate to ..android-sdk\platform-tools and open a command prompt by holding Shift + right click and selecting Open Command Prompt.

8. Type the following command in the command prompt window fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako
   -
9. Now use the Volume keys to scroll to Recovery mode and select it using the Power button.
   -
10. CWM Recovery will now open.
    -
11. Scroll down to Flash zip from SD card and select it using the Power button
    • Select Choose zip from SD card using the Power button.
    • Navigate to the SuperSU-v1.04-Nexus4-Update.zip file you copied to your device in step 1 and select it using the Power button.
    • Confirm the installation in the next screen and wait for the setup to complete.

12. Once completed return to the main screen and select Reboot System Now to reboot your device back into Android.

13. If you are asked to retain the CWM and avoid allowing Stock Recovery to overwrite it, choose Yes.

Once your device is rebooted you have successfully rooted your Google Nexus 4 on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. You can also reboot back into your custom Recovery to install any custom ROMs of your choice. You can check if your root has worked by downloading the Root Checker for Android app from the Google Play Store.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II on Verizon recently received a software update which is expected to have fixed the Exynos exploit which allowed users to root and unlock the device. This means that your recently updated device will no longer be rooted. 

However the developer community was quick to respond and have found a way around the update. This means that you can still unlock and root your Samsung Galaxy Note II, even after installing the I605VRALL4 OTA software update.

[NOTE] The method includes the TWRPbootloader, but you can download and flash the latest CWM (ClockworkMod) onto your device once you are done.

Requirements

• Download and install Java on your computer
• Windows and Linux are currently supported but Mac users will have to build Heimdall 1.4.1 RC2 from source
• Make sure you have a stock version of your operating system installed on your Galaxy Note II.
• Enable developer options on your device and make sure that USB Debugging is switched on.

  Guide (For Windows)

1. Connect your Galaxy Note II to your computer using the provided USB cable

2. Download ODIN and extract the files on your desktop
   -
3. Download the BAV Baseline. This will prepare your device for the root exploit and ensure we have root access if you have not enabled any exploit blockers. You will flash this with Odin the first time CASUAL asks you to flash a file. This is a bone-stock VRALJB kernel from Samsung. Do not uncompress. This gets flashed with Odin as-is.

4. Download the Back Atcha Verizon jailbroken bootloader + recovery. In order to flash this, you must use the exploit first. This is the last thing that gets flashed Do not uncompress. This gets flashed with Odin as-is. This bootloader was created by Elite Recognized Developer Ralekdev and packaged by AdamOutler.

5. Download and run CASUAL. You will be guided through the steps by the CASUAL tool.
   -
6. Once the device has been recognized by CASUAL click continue and your device will be rebooted.
   -
7. Run ODIN, click on Bootloader and select the the SuckItVerizon.tar package.
   -
8. Meanwhile the device will boot into an unsecure download mode
   • Select Up to continue
     -
9. Hit Start on ODIN and wait for the process to complete
   -
10. If the process is successful your Galaxy Note II will display options to install the the files you need to root.
