We previously reported that the Android 4.4 update had been delayed by two weeks for the U.S. version of the HTC One. However the Taiwan based manufacturer has started rolling out the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One X for AT&T as promised.

The update is being pushed OTA (over-the-air) and brings the 2.15.502.1 software version, which includes Android 4.2.2 combined with the HTC Sense 5 user interface. This means you will now get access to BlinkFeed, which offers quick access to your latest news and social media feeds. The update also includes an updated Gallery app, Video Highlights, Music Channel and Miracast. The update also will fix problems with the AT&T address book, and problems with NFC.


Such updates are generally released in a staggered basis which means not everyone will receive it at the same time. If you don't receive it today, perhaps it will come tomorrow. You should get notification when the update is available for your device, but you could also manually check for the update by going to  All apps > Settings > AT&T Software Updates > Check for updates > Ok.

The download should take around 20 minutes to complete, followed by around 10 minutes to update your device. Make sure that you have at least 35% of battery life before you initiate the update and stay connected to your Wi-Fi if you want to save data on your mobile plan.

The HTC One X was recently succeeded by the HTC One, but last year's flagship is about to get a major update in the form of Sense 5.0 which will bring features like the Zoe camera and BlinkFeed homescreen to the older device.

The news also suggests that the One X will be updated to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. While it is suggested that the One X will be receiving Zoe related features like the 3 second preview, it is not clear if all the software features of the HTC One like the highlight reels in the gallery will be ported over.

HTC Sense 5.0 UI

HTC Sense 5.0 is a cleaner and simpler take on the company's custom UI for Android and should be a welcome update to older HTC handsets.

Previous versions of Sense have been known for hogging system resources and the improvements in the new Sense UI should see a boost in performance for HTC One X users.

One X users will also benefit from the BlinkFeed homescreen, which offers an aggregated magazine style view of all your social updates or news.

There is no news on when the update can be expected, but stay tuned and we will keep you posted as soon as we learn more.

Last month HTC released the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean software update for the device in Asia and have now made the update available for the CID_038 or CID_044 variants of the device around the world.

The update will also bring the updated HTC Sense UI, a new landing page in the gallery and improved battery management. Before you get the Android 4.1.1 update which is 364MB in size, you will be required to download a 1.6MB update which will update your software to version 3.14.707.24. Due to the size of the update we feel is it best to be connected to your Wi-Fi connection if you want to avoid overages on your data plan.

Now the only ones left to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update are the HTC One X users bound to carrier contracts. We hope that it won't be too long before the update rolls out to those devices as well

The International variant of the HTC One X is now receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software update. The device will feature a 4.7-inch 720p HD display, 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture and will be powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM. Its good to see HTC has kept to their promise to bring the Jelly Bean update for the One X before the end of this month.

The update is being rolled out by region with the device carrying customer ID (CID) htc_612 (sold in Taiwan) being first in line for the update. You should receive a notifications on your device, when the update is available for your regions, and you could always manually check for the update by heading over to Settings.

According to the report devices carrying CID htc_044 are said to receive the update on Sunday. Based on previous leaks of the Jelly Bean ROM for the HTC One X, the update has shown great improvement in the performance of the device. Now that the update is official, users should be able to validate these claims for themselves. Especially with the performance improvements Jelly Bean offers over Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich through project butter.

Meanwhile there is no news on when the update will make its way to the HTC One X for AT&T which features 4G LTE connectivity is is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 processor.

One of the much needed features on a smartphone is a good camera, and the flagship handsets do well to provide that. Now that the new Apple iPhone 5 has joined the smartphone ranks, we cant help but wonder how well the device fairs against the current flagships in the camera department.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is probably its largest competitor with its 8 megapixel camera and F2.6 lens. Following their announcement of the HTC One X+ which will run Jelly Bean, HTC has also confirmed that the HTC One X and the HTC One S will be receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update before the end of October.

The update will bring all the features of Jelly Bean like the smooth performance of Project Butter Google Now and the upgraded HTC Sense 4+ UI. There will also be a new Self Portrait mode which detects the human face to help capture better pictures of yourself. HTC Watch will also be updated to version 2.0, which will allow you to view all your video content on a single hub.

HTC has confirmed some of its devices which will be receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. While the have not specified a date for the update, the HTC One X, HTC One XL and the HTC One S will all be receiving the latest version of Android.

HTC made the following statement in regard to the update:

“We know HTC fans are excited to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android. At this point in time, we can confirm that we have plans to upgrade our HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S to Jelly Bean. Please stay tuned for more updates regarding device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Jelly Bean,” HTC said”.

We are curious why the lower end HTC One V hasn’t made the cut. It was easy to assume that since Android Jelly Bean improved on the Ice Cream Sandwich performance that all ICS eligible devices will automatically be eligible for the Android 4.1 update. We hope that this list will grow bigger than just these three handsets.

If you have been planning to get the HTC One X on AT&T you may want to check out on Radio Shack who is planning to offer the device for pre-order starting this Sunday (April 22nd) according to a leaked internal memo. The advantage of getting the device through RadioShack is that you will receive a special code which will allow you to download seven Coldplay songs for free, including the band’s single ‘Charlie Brown’.


The other advantage is that Radio Shack is offering the device at $149 with a two year contract, compared to the $199 price tag from AT&T.

The AT&T version of the HTC One X will replace the quad-core processor from the international variant with a dual-core chip which has an integrated LTE radio. AT&T and HTC have come to this decision to offer better batter life on the device.

The HTC One X will arrive on AT&T on May 6th and will the first handset on the carrier to feature Android 4.0 and Beats Audio. The HTC One X is also the first handset from the company to feature HTC Sense 4.0 UI.

If you are one of the those who picked up an HTC One X you will be happy to know that the Android Community has been able to root the device. A step-by-step guide on how to root your HTC One X on Android 4.0.3 follows:

1. Head over to HTCDev.com and follow the instructions on how to unlock your bootloader for the HTC One X.
   
2. Download and install the full Android SDK
   
3. Download Interim ClockworkMod (CWM) Touch Recovery
   • Transfer this to the fastboot folder insider your Android SDK folder on your computer
4. Download CWM-Flashable version of SuperSU
   • Transfer the file to your device /sdard folder
5. Connect your device to your computer via USB
   
6. Switch off your device
   • Press and hold Volume Down + Power button to boot into recovery
7. Open Command Prompt ( Terminal on Mac) on your computer and type the following command
   • fastboot flash recovery r1-modaco-recovery-clockwork-touch-endeavoru.img
   • This will flash ClockworkMod Touch to your device
8. Restart your device and switch it off again
   • Press and hold Volume Down + Power button
   • You will boot into built ClockworkMod
9. Perform a nandroid backup
   
10. Navigate to install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard and select SuperSU.zip which you previously downloaded.
    
11. From the main menu select reboot system now.

If you followed the steps correctly your HTC One X will now boot into Android 4.0.3 with root access. You can confirm that your rooting has been successful if you find the SuperSU app among your apps.
You should now be able to install root-only apps or custom ROMs on your HTC One X.
