After two years of discussion, Nokia has announced its acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent for a sum of $16.6 billion. The transition will combine two of the smallest network equipment firms in Europe, thus better equipping them to take on industry leaders like Ericsson and Huawei.
Nokia will give each Alcatel-Lucent stockholder .55 of a Nokia share. That works out to a value of $4.32 for each Alcatel-Lucent share. When the deal closes in the first half of 2016, Alcatel-Lucent stockholders will own 35% of the combined company. Nokia will continue to remain based in Finland under the care of Chairman Risto Siilasmaa and Chief Executive Rajeev Suri. Additionally a vice chairman will be appointed from Alcatel-Lucent. The deal is also expected to strengthen ties between Finland, and France where Alcatel-Lucent is now headquartered.
Nokia said that as a result of the deal, it will look to sell some assets including the highly regarded HERE maps business. Rumors that HERE was being shopped started to circulate last week. A combined Nokia-Alcatel-Lucent immediately becomes a competitor to Ericsson, which has the largest market share in the wireless network equipment industry at 40%. Nokia now jumps into the number two slot with 35% of the pie. Huawei, the low-cost leader, owns 20% of the market.

The ONETOUCH Watch features a 1.22 inch display which is almost completely round similar to the Motorola Moto 360. One of the advantages of the Alcatel ONETOUCH Watch is its stellar battery life, which ensures you don't have to charge it daily. However its unique for running Android 4.4 KitKat and featuring Cyanogen OS.Alcatel boasts that the HERO 2+ is the first phablet with an octa-core processor and Cyanogen OS natively available on the device, and it will be available as such exclusively to the North American market in Q2 for the modest sum of $299 without any contract, through Alcatel's online store.

Alcatel announces a PIXI 3 phablet and two PIXI 3 tablets
Alcatel has announced a new large screened smartphone (phablet) and two portable tablets in the PIXI 3 lineup. The new lineup offers 3G/4G connectivity options and is offered at affordable prices.
First we have the Alcatel OneTouch PIXI 3 (5.5) phablet, which is available in a 3G and a 4G model. Both have 5.5 inch displays, 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera and 1GB of RAM.
However the 3G model has a IPS screen with a 540 x 960 pixel resolution, a 2910 mAh battery and is powered by a quad-core MediaTek processor. Meanwhile the 4G LTE model has a TFT screen with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, a smaller 2800mAh battery and a quad-core Snapdragon 210 processor from Qualcomm.
The OneTouch PIXI 3 (5.5) aims to appeal to a youthful audience and will be sold in an array of colors, including Volcano Black, White, Amber Orange, Tango Red, Neon Pink, Laser Yellow, Vivid Green, Sharp Blue and Metallic Silver.
Next we have the Alcatel OneTouch PIXI 3 (7) which is available in WiFi, 3G and 4G variants, and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop. The tablet is available in Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G variants. All three models feature 7 inch displays, a 2MP rear camera, a secondary camera for video calls, a 2820 mAh battery, and 4GB of internals storage which can be expanded through microSD.
However the 4G model is powered by a Snapdragon 210 quad-core CPU with 1GB of RAM, while the other two variants are powered by dual-core MediaTek MT8127 processors with only 512MB of RAM.
Finally we have the Alcatel OneTouch PIXI 3 (8) tablet which is available in 3G and WiFi variants, and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. The device features an 8 inch display with an 800 x 1280 pixel resolution, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 2MP rear camera, a secondary camera for video calls and a dual-core MediaTek MT8127 processor with 1GB of RAM.
