Meet the LG Watch Urbane LTE, which accompanies the previously announced LG Watch Urbane at LG's MWC 2015 lineup. The LG Watch Urbane LTE is the more premium of the two wearables, featuring full 4G LTE capabilities and webOS instead of Android Wear.
With 4G LTE connectivity, you can make calls and send messages directly from your wrist. This is because your smartwatch is fully independent from your smartphone, so while you can connect the two, you do not need your smartphone to use the watch. There is also a useful walkie-talkie feature that lets you even more quickly communicate with people anywhere.
The other noticeable difference between the two LG Watch Urbane units is the underlying operating system. The LTE model comes with webOS instead of Android Wear with its Google Play services.

There's no word yet on the pricing for the LG Watch Urbane, or plan details for the Watch Urbane LTE. However, AT&T has announced that it will be the first carrier to have the Watch Urbane in the US at the end of April. In the short time we had with the devices, they are two of the most stylish smartwatches we've ever seen, and we're particularly intrigued by webOS on the Urbane LTE. This is a mandatory system update which has been available for these devices since early June.Basically what it does is update a certificate used by webOS to access cloud services like backup/restore and the App Catalog. The current certificate is set to expire on June 23.
All you have to do is power up your device and simply accept the automatic update. However if you are running an older version of webOS, a manual update is required. To manually update head over to HP App Catalog and select the app called “App Catalog Update,” download and install.

HP’s relationship with the webOS platform was never one of value with its attempts at bringing webOS based hardware failing in its very first attempt. While the company’s efforts with open webOS gave some glimmer of hope for the platform, the announcement of the Android based HP Slate 7 signaled that the company was looking in a different direction.
Fortunately for Palm users LG has stated that they will continue support them even though the company has already stated that they are not interested in using webOS on their smartphones. However LG’s CTO Skott Ahn said that the webOS team will be the “heart and soul” of the new LG Silicon Valley Lab in Sunnyvale, California. webOS sites in San Francisco, San Jose and Chicago will also be incorporated into LG’s global research and development operations. We hope that LG will eventually realize that the potential of webOS can be much more than just another platform.

What's interesting is that the developer behind this port has taken only two weeks to port it from the Galaxy Nexus version and that the port is able to run without being connected to a PC. You are however required to tether your device to boot it up, but it can later be unplugged from the desktop.
Considering that the port is still in an early alpha stage, it is impressive to see how smooth the performance is. Hopefully we will continue to see the operating system ported to more devices and have it running on some for day to day use.

HP to spin off webOS division into a new company called Gram
After a long an unsuccessful year with webOS and HP's decision to open source the mobile operating system, it looks like the company is looking to spin off their webOS division altogether.
The new company will be named Gram and will look to leverage the 'core strengths' of webOS and cloud computing. Gram's focus will be on software, user experience, Cloud computing, engineering and partnering.
This information was leaked through internal HP memos which suggest that Gram has already entered 'Stealth Mode', which is common to new start-ups in order to avoid being bought out by large competitors.
What does Gram have in store for us? Will they continue to build on webOS once the first open source build is publicly available? We will have to wait and see. But stay tuned to our blog by following us on Facebook or Twitter for updates.

The WebOS running HP TouchPad may have been discontinued, but thanks to the fire sales on the device it has taken the position of #2 tablet position for the first three quarters of 2011.
The number one position is held by Apple's iPad of course, which is dominating the tablet market. HP follows by capturing 17% of the market share, with Samsung with 16%, Asus at 10% and Motorola and Acer with 9% of the tablets. With Android tablet being around much longer than WebOS it is quite an achievement for WebOS to hold that much of the market share.
But with HP selling their tablets at a loss and with the uncertain WebOS future we have to wonder if the current HP TouchPad owners will enjoy their tablets for much longer.
