What makes the Surface 3 special, is that it doesn't run Windows RT like the Microsoft Surface 2 or the original Microsoft Surface. Instead you get full 64-bit Windows 8.1 (with Windows Pro for business customers) and will be updated to Windows 10 for free when it is available. With full Windows, you can run just about any native Windows desktop application on your Surface, including the modern apps on the Windows Store.
The Surface 3 also acts as a more compact, and more affordable variant of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The new tablet is 8.7mm thin, and weighs 622 grams (1.37 lbs), which makes it quite portable. It comes with a 10.8 inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The 3:2 aspect ratio found on Surface Pro 3 and the iPad is also used here, making it easier to hold in portrait mode for reading or writing a quick note with the pen.
The table also adopts the kickstand design from the Surface Pro 3, with three preset positions - a narrow angle that’s great for working at a traditional desk, an intermediate angle that is designed for sitting on the couch or using the device on your lap, and a wide angle that provides a natural writing or drawing canvas. When the kickstand is not in use it blends into the body of the tablet as before.
The Surface 3 also has an 8MP rear camera, a 3.5MP front camera - both capable of 1080p video capture. The rear-facing camera now features autofocus to take better photos but is also particularly useful for capturing images of documents, barcodes and the like. The Surface Hub will be available in two sizes – a 55 inch and a 84 inch model. Both variants has 4K resolutions with 120Hz refresh rates, which means the display will refresh every 8.33 milliseconds, which should offer butter smooth visuals, animations and transitions. To make the experience even better, Microsoft will ship the Surface Hub with fourth-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processors.
You may have noticed that the Hub comes with two cameras on either side of the display, these cameras are full-HD and work together to produce a super wide-angle image of virtually the entire room so that those watching will have everyone in sight. The cameras can also follow speakers and focus on them as they walk around the room.
An array of directional microphones similar to the ones used in the Xbox Kinect sensor also support speakers to ensure that their voice is heard loud and clear while background noises are eliminated. Other sensors let the Surface Hub know when people are nearby, so it instantly wakes up and is ready to go.
Software wise, you get Windows 10 with the Hub specific apps alongside the universal Windows apps which will scale to suite the large screened device. You also get the Ink handwriting software and the ability to draw on anything you see should make the large screens perfect for meetings. Microsoft also showcased integration with Skype for Business and a “OneNote-based Whiteboard” that users can work on simultaneously.
Content on the Hub can be shared wirelessly via Miracast-connected devices so meeting participants can view and manipulate the content on their own devices. With such an intuitive tool, collaboration becomes seamless, instant, and barrier-free.

My mission is to develop my traditional methods of art and drawing through mobile technology to produce realistic interpretations in digital paint. I want to fulfil, yet also challenge people’s perception of traditional art by producing engaging works in which people question how it was produced, what medium was used and on what platform it was created on. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is now receiving a new firmware update which enhances the performance of the tablet, while improving its Wi-Fi connectivity. The update is being sent out in stages, so it may take awhile before it is available for your device.

Updates for the Surface Pro 3 are cumulative, which means that the latest update will include all previous updates that you might have missed. Once a firmware update is installed on your Surface Pro 3, it cannot be uninstalled.
The update to the Surface Pro 3 brings the following new features and improvements to your tablet:
- Surface Pro UEFI update (v3.10.250.0) improves system experience and enhances overall system stability, including Wi-Fi;
- Surface Pro Embedded Controller Firmware update (v38.6.50.0) enhanced support for system performance and user experience, including thermostat icon on boot;
- Surface Pro System Aggregator Firmware update (v3.9.350.0) increases the overall system reliability and compatibility with a Surface cover;
- Surface Integration driver update (v2.0.1102.0) enhances user experience, including Wi-Fi stability;
- Surface Wi-Fi and Bluetooth driver update (v15.68.3055.107) improves Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth reliability and system stability, and significantly enhances the user experience.

Back in July, Microsoft stated that the Surface Pro 3 was selling faster than previous Surface slates, and the company probably expects sales to see a significant bump now that it’s launching it across the globe.

Microsoft Surface 2 discounted by $100
Looking to purchase a tablet for the new school year? Having you had your eye on the Microsoft Surface 2 with access to the Office suite and OneDrive ? Well you are in luck as the tablet has been discounted on the Microsoft Store
The 32GB model can now be yours for only $349, while the 64GB model costs just $449. If you want 4G LTE connectivity, Microsoft has you covered for $579. Keep in mind that the LTE model is linked to the AT&T network and comes with 64GB of storage. There is no information on when the discount will expire.
The Microsoft Surface 2 features a 10.6 inch LCD display with a 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution, up to 64GB of internal storage with the option of expansion through microSD, a 5 megapixel rear camera, a 3.5 megapixel front camera and a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor with 2GB of RAM.
It is important to note that this is a Windows RT device. So you wont be able to run the usual native Windows apps you run on your desktop or laptop. The desktop mode is basically only used for managing your files and running Office.
Does the $100 discount warrant purchasing one of Microsoft's tablets instead of an iPad or an Android tablet? Well if you are looking for a device solely for productivity, you could consider the Surface 2. However the Surface Pro or another full Windows running tablet may be much better suited. We would have preferred to see Microsoft offer a better discount on this device, given that it is not really a popular tablet option these days.

Microsoft thinks its Surface Pro 3 is superior to the Apple MacBook Air, and it wants to show you how much better their tablet is compared to Apple's ultra-portable laptop.
The following video ads, compare the hardware specifications of the two devices and goes on to list the touchscreen, pen and detachable keyboard (sold separately for $130). It even points out its ability to run full Windows programs, as you would expect from a regular laptop or desktop.

Microsoft is giving students a reason to pick the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 over its competitors by offering a discount on their flagship tablet until September 3rd. To be eligible for the discount, you will have to verify that you are enrolled as a student, before you can make the purchase.
Those who pick the entry level Surface Pro 3, with the Intel Core i3 processor will get a $150 discount on the marked price. This means the tablet can be yours for $649, compared to the usual $799 price. Discounts vary depending on the model you select, with the most expensive model with Intel Core i7 and 512GB of storage receiving a $194.90 discount. This brings its price down to $1754.10 from $1949.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with Intel Core i3 and Core i7 now available in U.S. and Canada
Currently those purchasing a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 have been limited to the Intel Core i5 model. Fortunately Microsoft is now ready to expand their portfolio with the Intel Core i3 and Intel Core i7 variants of their flagship tablet. The entry level Surface Pro 3 with Intel i3 will cost you $799 while the pricy Intel i7 model with 512GB of storage is priced at $1949.
You could also opt for a slightly cheaper Intel i7 version, with 256GB of storage for $1549 or select between the 128GB Intel i5 for $999 or the 256GB Intel i5 for $1299. Other than the storage, and the choice between 4GB and 8GB of RAM, the specs are identical between the models. You get a 12 inch display with a 2160 by 1440 pixel resolution, two 5MP front and rear cameras and a digital pen which offers a natural writing and drawing experience.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 receives software update ahead of launch
Microsoft is expected to start shipping certain Surface Pro 3 models tomorrow, June 20 when new tablet is expected to be available for purchase across stores in the U.S. However it looks like Microsoft is rolling out a quick software update to the slate ahead of the launch.
According to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that the update fixes the battery charging issue that some Surface Pro 3 units had since last month, while also adding overall performance enhancements. The update should be available to new Surface Pro 3 owners as soon as they set up the tablet.
The Surface Pro 3 which runs Windows 8.1 Pro features a 12 inch display with a 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution and is marketed by Microsoft as a tablet that can replace notebooks. Microsoft will offer the Surface Pro 3 in five different configurations: 64GB / Intel i3 ($799), 128GB / Intel i5 ($999), 256GB / Intel i5 ($1,299), 256GB / Intel i7 ($1,549), and 512GB / Intel i7 ($1,949). Only the Intel i5 variants are shipping this month, with the other three expected to arrive in August.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 - Video Review
The Microsoft Surface 3 is the third generation tablet from the company, and its great to see that Microsoft has continued to improve their product into what has become the latest iteration of the Surface. Now with a larger display, more responsive touchpad and the ability to prop it at a more comfortable angle, the Surface Pro 3 is easily the best tablet from Microsoft to date.
Additionally, Microsoft now offers the Surface Pro 3 with an Intel Core i3 configuration., allowing the tablet to sold at $799 (which is $100 lesser) compared to last year's $899 base model.
Despite adding all these improvements and making the tablet larger, Microsoft has managed to design a thinner and lighter Surface, which is a true testament to the company's design team. While the Surface is essentially a tablet, it packs the power of most modern Ultrabooks and could easily be a replacements to Apple's MacBook Air.

Why Microsoft didn't release the Surface mini
As you may know, Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 3 today, during a special media event in New York. Microsoft was also expected to unveil a brand new Surface mini during today's event, but chose to focus solely on the Surface Pro instead
The Surface mini was expected to be a smaller variant of the Surface and the successor to the Surface RT tablets. We got our first glimpse of the device when a case manufacturer released pictures of a case for the small size tablet. Microsoft's Surface RT and Surface 2 feature 10.6 inch displays and are powered by NVidia processors. Since both tablets run Windows RT, they are only capable of running apps from the Windows Store. Since Windows RT is unable to run regular Windows software, it actually made sense for Microsoft to offer a smaller, more portable Windows RT tablet in the form of the Surface mini instead of a full size tablet which cannot run most productivity apps. Rumors also suggested that Microsoft would switch from NVidia chips to use Qualcomm processors and outfit their Surface mini tablets with LTE connectivity.
The Surface Pro 3 on the other hand is all about productivity. It packs powerful Core series processors with a minimum of 4GB RAM, and runs full Windows, which means you can run just about any app you would run on your desktop or laptop on your Surface Pro. The company has even chosen to increase the screen size of the Surface Pro 3 to 12 inches compared to the 10.6 inches on the Surface Pro 2, showing that they meant to aggressively take on laptops with their newest tablet. Microsoft even had an Adobe executive demonstrate the next version of Photoshop running on the Surface Pro 3.
The issue with the Surface Pro 3 is its cost. Even though the device is marketed as a tablet, it is in fact a powerful computer capable of replacing your laptops, notebooks and ultrabooks. In fact, Microsoft even thinks the Surface Pro 3 is powerful enough to replace your desktop. So the cost is justified, but its hard to convince your customers to spend money on an expensive tablet if a cheaper alternative was also available.
Historically, the Surface RT tablets have not been very successful and Microsoft has had to write offer a lot of their unsold inventory as a result. It is not known if a smaller Surface mini will allow the company to suddenly succeed in the tablet space, and it was clear that Microsoft is not yet ready to gamble.
By first releasing their more successful Surface Pro tablet, Microsoft will now focus on aggressively marketing the device. Once they have sold a significant number of tablets, the company should get turn back to their Surface mini.

Today, Microsoft unveiled their third generation Surface tablet, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, during a special media event in New York. The Surface Pro 3 is the most powerful Windows tablet to date, easily capable of replacing most laptops and notebooks.
Firstly you are presented with the solid construction that the Surface tablets are known for, and Microsoft is was not shy about dropping their brand new tablets in front of the event attendees, just to show how versatile the Surface can be. Additionally the device weighs only 800 grams, which makes it over 100 grams lighter than the previous model. Microsoft has even managed to make the tablet extremely thin at 9.1 millimeters. What's really impressive here is that Microsoft has made their newest tablet lighter and thinner, while giving it a larger 12 inch display. Despite being thinner, the Surface offers up to 9 hours of battery life.
Microsoft has upped the screen size to 12 inches on the Surface Pro 3, from the 10.6 inches on the previous model. The Surface Pro 3 has a 3:2 aspect Ratio, which Microsoft claims will give the user a more natural feel. It also gives you 6% more area than that on an 13-inch Macbook Air. The Surface Pro 3 display has a resolution of 2160 by 1440 pixels, which results in a 216 ppi pixel density.
As for its multimedia capabilities, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 comes with two 5MP cameras - one in the front and one in the back - paired with front and back-facing microphones. The snappers can shoot 1080p video at 30 frames per second. Microsoft is also touting the tablet's upgraded front-facing speakers that are now 45% louder. The tablet also features a full-size USB 3.0 port for peripherals, a Mini DisplayPort for projecting to an external display, and a microSD card reader for expandable storage.
Microsoft has further improved on the kickstand of the Surface Pro 3, which features a friction-hinge that allows you to angle your tablet anywhere between zero and 150 degrees.
The larger Surface now comes with a larger click-in keyboard, which is available in five colors. Microsoft will also introduce a docking station for your Surface which will be available in the coming months.
Microsoft wants users to feel as comfortable as using a pen and paper when their use their Surface Pro 3. Because of this, their new tablets comes with a Pen (stylus) which gives you the most natural interaction. You can start writing on your Surface by just clicking the top of your pen and the OneNote app will be on and ready to take your notes. Since OneNote is available across all platforms (iOS, Android and Windows) your notes will instantly be synced to your devices through OneDrive.
The Surface Pro 3 will be powered by the latest 4th generation Intel Core series processors, with the most powerful model running a Core i7 with HD 4400 graphics.. Microsoft has managed to put Intel's most powerful chip into its new tablet and has even managed to keep in fanless, thus making it the thinnest Core i7 device ever. Obviously the most powerful variant comes at a cost, so you could opt for the cheaper models, with the Core i3 or Core i5 processors instead. To keep its cool even under heavy load, the Surface Pro 3 relies on a fanless cooling system and vents placed around its sides. Storage options are available from 64GB to 512GB, with memory configurations offering either 4GB or 8GB of RAM.
