The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch launched with support for only the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, giving other Galaxy or Android owners no reason to use the accessory unless they chose to upgrade to the company's newest phablet. This is about to change, as the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software update, which has been rolling out will extend this compatibility to the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note II.

Later this month, even more members of the Samsung family will receive compatibility with the smartwatch, including the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8, Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, and Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom. Obviously this is not something that will take place overnight as these update processes generally tend to take months to complete. Luckily this means that Galaxy owners could consider finding the Galaxy Gear smartwatch in their Christmas stockings this year as the new year should allow you to flaunt your brand your Galaxy Gear alongside your own Samsung device.

It's clear than Samsung rushed the Galaxy Gear in order to rival Apple's upcoming iWatch. But seeing that Apple has run into delays in manufacturing its smartwatch, which isn't expected until mid 2014, Samsung seems to have shifted gears and returned to the drawing board.

New speculations suggest that a Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 equipped with GPS capabilities to offer location data, and could be compatible with all Android smartphones. This sequel to the Galaxy Gear smartwatch could be unveiled as early as CES 2014 this January in Las Vegas or at MWC 2014 in February.

T-Mobile will launch both the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch companion on October 2nd.

The Galaxy Note 3 will be available on T-Mobile's Simple Choice Plan and will be priced at $199.99 down with 24 equal monthly payments of $21.00. Meanwhile the Galaxy Gear will cost you $299. The Galaxy Gear smartwatch is an extension to your mobile device, giving you quick glance notifications, hands-free calling, music control and more.

While T-Mobile is still not ready to take on pre-orders like Verizon, they are giving their customers to win a free Galaxy Note 3 and companion Galaxy Gear for themselves. It didn't take long for carriers to get behind the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. All four major U.S. carriers have announced that they will be offering both devices, while AT&T and T-Mobile have already put up pre-registration pages for the phablet, asking you for information so that you can be contacted when the device is ready to be pre-ordered.

Verizon has taken it one step further and announced that they will start accepting pre-orders for both devices as early as this Friday, September 6th at 9AM.


While there is no news on how much the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will cost, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch is known to be priced at $299. The Galaxy Gear which is being marketed as the perfect companion for your Galaxy Note 3, connects to your device via Bluetooth and does not require a separate data plan.

The Galaxy Note 3 will launch in 140 countries on September 25th and later this year in the U.S. through Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular. The Galaxy Gear will be released later this month in some areas and in the U.S. and Japan later this month.

Today Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch as the newest member of the Galaxy family. The Galaxy Gear took the stage alongside the newest Galaxy Note and a new Galaxy Tab 10.1 at Samsung's unpacked event at IFA 2013. The Galaxy Gear is quite an attractive device with a polished chrome finish and a tapered bezel. It has a 1.63 inch Super AMOLED display with a 320 by 320 pixel display, which is where most of the action takes place.



Samsung is marketing the Galaxy Gear as "the perfect companion to your Note 3", but it will also be compatible with the new Galaxy Note 10.1 and with the Samsung Galaxy S4 courtesy of a software update. Samsung also promises to bring support for other Galaxy series devices down the line.

The Gear will show you incoming messages, such as calls, texts, emails and alerts, delivers a preview of those messages, and then allow you to dig deeper or get rid of the message. But, the real power comes from Samsung's Smart Relay feature.
Additionally, you can create a Voice Memo, draft messages, create new calendar entries, set alarms, and check the weather using voice commands.
