Dell announces two new Android tablets at Computex with 64-bit Intel CPUs
With the open nature of Android, it isn't surprising that almost every manufacturer has a device on their lineup. Dell is one such manufacturer, who has unveiled two new tablets at the ongoing Computex 2014 in Taiwan. The tablets are known as the Dell Venue 7 and the Dell Venue 8.
In case you are wondering, both tablets are actually refreshed versions of last year's Venue 7 and Venue 8. The new Venue 7 features a 7 inch HD display and is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core 64-bit Intel Atom Z3460 processor. Meanwhile the new Venue 8 features an 8 inch full HD display and is powered by a 2.13GHz dual-core 64-bit Intel Atom Z3480 processor. Both tablets feature 5MP rear cameras and Waves MAXXAudio Pro technology for "great sound quality" are common features of the new tablets. The two processors are part of Intel’s new Merrifield series that was unveiled in February at MWC 2014.
You will be able to purchase the Venue 7 and the Venue 8 through Dell.com after July 1st. The 7 inch tablet has been priced at $159.99, while the larger device will cost you just $199.99. More information on the two tablets will be revealed in teh coming months.
In addition to the Venue 7 and Venue 8, Dell also announced several tablet accessories that will likely also be launched in July: Dell Bluetooth Portable Speaker, Dell Bluetooth Keyboard Folio, Dell Venue Rotating Folio, Dell Duo Tablet Case, and the Dell Venue Cradle (for wirelessly charging the Venue 8). There’s no word on how much these will cost.

Acer announces more new smartphones at Computex
At the ongoing Computex 2014 in Taipei, China, Acer announced five new smartphones, an 8-inch tablet, and its first-ever wearable accessory. We have already told you about the Acer Liquid Jade smartphone with the Acer Liquid Leap wearable. We have also told you about the Acer Iconia Tab 8 premium Android tablet. So lets take a look at some of the other interesting announcements, which include an entry-level smartphone with DTS Audio and a triple-SIM smartphone for the extra-communicative among you. The Acer Liquid Z200 is meant for users on a budget, looking for an entry level device with option dual SIM capabilities. Its specs include a 4 inch WVGA (480x800) display, a 2 megapixel rear camera, a 1300mAh battery and a 1.0GHz dual-core MediaTek processor with 512MB of RAM.
Acer has also included DTS Studio Sound™ (previously available only in Acer’s mainstream series smartphones), four user interface profiles (youngsters, seniors, first-time smartphone users, feature-phone switchers), and three camera modes (auto-smile, continuous, panorama). The good news for users is that the handset runs Android 4.4 KitKat, while means MediaTek has finally updated its Android support from Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Acer Liquid X1
The Acer Liquid X1 features a 5.7 inch touch display, quad-core graphics and a octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM. You get a 13 megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, 0.3-second autofocus, and some interesting camera features such as Bright Magic (for brightening up low-light photographs), Free Focus (the phone does all the focusing work on its own), and Motion Tracking (for capturing moving objects). In addition,
Acer has also included a feature called Zoom Fit - a mode that adjusts the interface to 4-inch display proportions for easy one-hand usage; AcerRAPID for quickly accessing camera, calls, and apps; and AcerFLOAT for multi-tasking with app windows that stay open.

The Asus Transformer Book V and the Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi are two amazing Windows devices the company announced at the ongoing Computex 2014. But the company also had a lineup of affordable Android tablets ready to be shown off. These belong in the Asus Fonepad and MeMO Pad, and are all powered by Intel's new Atom line of mobile processors.
First we have the Asus FonePad 8, which features an 8 inch touch display with a 1280 by 800 pixel resolution, 3G connectivity and a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 processor. The display is surrounded by just a 5mm bezel, which makes the FonePad 8 the best screen-to-body ratio amongst all 8" tablets out there, at 72.2% ratio. The tablet also flaunts dual stereo speakers, situated at the front.
Next we have the Asus MeMO Pad 7 which has a 7 inch 720p HD display, a 5MP rear camera, stereo speakers and a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3745 quad-core processor.
Last but not least we have the Asus MeMO Pad 8 which the company calls "the world’s lightest 8-inch LTE tablet." The device features an 8 inch 1080p HD display, Wi-Fi 801ac, LTE and a 2.3GHz 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor. To top it all off, the tablet has a premium multi-layer metal coating for the chassis, weighs just 10.55oz (299g), and is only 0.29 (7.3mm) thick.
The three new Asus tablets are sporting a thoroughly overhauled Zen UI overlay, which the company touts to be "featuring over 1000 software enhancements and a new visual design." The redrawn interface is executed in the modern flat style, and introduces entirely new themes, transitional animations, notification sounds, and ringtones.

Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi officially announced
Asus followed the unveiling of the Asus Transformer Book V at Computex 2014, with the announcement of the Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi. This is one of the most beautifully designed devices from Asus to date, and has been dubbed by the company as the "world's thinnest 12.5-inch detachable tablet."
Alone, the tablet measures in at just 7.3mm (0.29") while it measures 14.3mm (0.56") when combined with its keyboard dock. Its 12.5 inch IPS-LCD display has a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels and is it said to be powered by "Intel’s next-generation, high-performance, low-power processor based on the Core micro-architecture." The tablet will also be offered with optional LTE connectivity.
The Transformer Book T300 Chi is also said to have a "fanless design", which means it could be featuring Intel's upcoming Broadwell processors, instead of Haswell. This means, we wont likely be able to get our hands on this machine until the fall. Still, Haswell also has a fanless mobile edition, so it might arrive sooner Asus is staying mum on the exact pricing for now, but it looks like it will be available in Black and Gold when it is made available.

It is interesting because it is made up of three components - A smartphone, a tablet and a keyboard dock. The tablet when docked turns the device into a notebook with access to full Windows 8.1. Docking the phone to the combo allows the option of using Android instead.The tablet has a 12.5 inch touch display 128GB of internal storage and is powered by an Intel Core processor with 4GB of RAM. When the device is docked to the keyboard you get access to an additional 1TB of native storage through the keyboard dock. The phone which is visually similar to the Asus Zenfone 5, runs Android 4.4 KitKat. It features a 5 inch display, 64GB of internal storage, an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera, LTE connectivity and a 64-bit quad-core Moorefield Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM.
Essentially the Asus Transformer Book V can be used as a Windows and Android tablet, a Windows and Android notebook or an Android phone. Sadly there is no news on pricing and availability yet, but stay tuned and we will have the information available to you as soon as we know.

The device features a 6.0 inch touch display, up to 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD storage, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video capture, a 1.2 megapixel camera for video calls, a stylus and is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM.
The device sets itself apart from its competitors with its Intel chipset and its generous RAM. It also offers dual front facing stereo speakers similar to what we have on the HTC One. Its 6 inch display has a 1080 by 1920 pixel resolution, which makes it the first device to have a 6 inch full HD display. The Super IPS-LCD+ display which is used offers a peak brightness of 450 nits and great viewing angles. Its stylus is housed on the device similar to what we have seen on Samsung's Note phablets.

Despite its low cost its quad-core processor and 1GB memory should delivery a reasonable experience to its users, which isn't typical for low-cost tablets. In terms of software, users will have Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with the Asus Waveshare UI on top.
If you are in one of the regions that the device will be shipped to, you can get your hands on it in July and choose between black, white, pink or green once it launches.

Acer's aim with the W3 is to "put the desktop into a single hand", but its 500 grams weight and 11.4 mm thickness doesn't quite make it the thinnest portable tablet, even though its the lightest Windows 8 tablet to date.
The Iconia W3 has the same Intel Atom Z2760 processor which is found in the Acer Iconia W510 and its battery is capable of offering around 8 hours of continuous use with a single charge.
Acer is adding value to this tablet by including a copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 which productive users will find useful. Especially if they choose to purchase the optional full sized QWERTY keyboard dock.

In tablet mode the device is powered by a 2GHz Intel Atom Z2580 processor, which is more than capable of taking on most basic day to day tasks. You can enjoy the content on the tablets 11.6 inch IPS-LCD touch display which has a 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution. There is 64GB of storage for your files and a 19Wh battery to power the device while you are mobile.
When the device is docked it gets an additional 33Wh battery which boasts up to 15 hours of battery life. You also get 750GB of additional storage and an Intel Core i7 CPU to power Windows 8 mode. The added storage and powerful processor makes the tablet ideal for more resource intensive tasks.
Asus claims that "the Transformer Book Trio has been designed to smoothly transition between modes, allowing users to sync data or continue to surf the webpage they're on even when moving from notebook to tablet mode." This is interesting considering you are switching between Android and Windows and this is not any form of emulation.
Asus hasn't revealed how much this device will cost, but we can imagine it will be somewhat on the higher range considering its hardware. We will have to wait to find out in any case when the device hits shelves in Q3 later this year.

TAIPEI, (June 3, 2013) Acer announces its first "phablet" device, designed to be the new travel companion for professionals and adventurers alike. With a large 5.7" HD 1280 x 720 screen and intelligent applications, the Acer Liquid S1 greatly enhances mobile productivity and entertainment.
Featuring single/dual SIM cards, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, and a day's worth of battery power, the Liquid S1 combines the work efficiency of a tablet PC with the convenience and multimedia-rich features of a smartphone. It is an all-in-one mobile device that opens up more possibilities for users to communicate and explore.
Wireless office at hand
The Liquid S1 is easy to carry and lets users access their documents and files wherever they go. Business people can leave documents behind, knowing that they can wirelessly retrieve their files via AcerCloud Docs. Users can also remotely access files from their main PC through Acer Remote Files. In addition, with the Liquid S1 businesspeople can project their presentations in 720p HD, and print documents straight from their phablet - all using wireless display and print features.
Everything under perfect control
Intuitive and useful applications that boost work productivity and maximize entertainment on the go are preinstalled on the Liquid S1.
Acer Float User Interface allows several app windows to stay open so users can multitask without having to back out of one app to work on another. The press of a key brings up the Float Apps shortcut; apps on a translucent screen float over the function being used. It is easy to access or switch Float Apps anytime. These apps include camera, maps, calculator and notes. A Float Caller notification ensures that users will not be interrupted by incoming calls that take over the full screen. When a call comes in, the Float Caller mini-window pops up and the user can choose to take the call or reply with a quick message.
Acer Auto Profile supports predefined network settings for frequently visited locations, so the next time the user visits the same spot, the Liquid S1 will automatically switch profiles. The adjustable settings include brightness, volume and vibration; plus Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi® and 3G connections.
Voice Unlock directly opens apps or interfaces by recording and using personal voice commands. Users can quickly unlock the Liquid S1 to the home screen, camera, SMS or call keypad by voice, in one easy step, without touch. Acer data traffic manager keeps an eye on daily and monthly data usage, which is especially handy for users who do not have an unlimited data plan.
Mobile studio and entertainment
Bringing the Liquid S1 along is like taking a complete mobile studio on the road. In addition to its spacious 5.7" screen with HD streaming and vivid HD playback, this phablet combines features for photo taking, video recording, and editing and creating media. Everything can be conveniently shared. The studio/entertainment features include:
Wide Front Shot uses the front camera with 88° wide viewing angle plus the 24 mm lens to capture more. The camera and 5.7" screen together capture wider, taller visuals for better wide-angle photos and video conferencing. Voice Shot allows hands-free photo taking just by saying "cheese!". Smile Shot detects smiling faces and automatically captures precious moments in real time - especially useful for taking pictures of babies and young children.
Studio Sound delivers astonishing sound and an extra-wide stereo image. DTS Studio Sound™ brings cinematic audio to mobile devices with a bigger sound field and higher vocal clarity.
Live sharing among friends Through Acer's 2-way Live Screen™ app users can invite friends for temporary group sharing. The group administrator simply taps on a photo or note, and it will pop up on friends' mobile-device screens, enabling live interaction and sharing in real time. Friends can push photos or notes back for 2-way live sharing.
Premium design and materials
The Acer Liquid S1 uses fine craftsmanship and materials to deliver a premium, minimalist design, ideal for assertive businesspeople and passionate explorers. With a slender profile, it features curved details on the front and the sides, aluminum side grips, and is available in matte black or white.
Pricing and availability
The Liquid S1 will start shipping in Q3 2013 in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, UK and Germany, followed by Spain and Italy with a starting price of €349.

Microsoft recently revealed their intentions to join their tablet ranks with their own Microsoft Surface. But we didn't get to see Widows RT in action during Microsoft’s tablet Event. However manufacturers have been cooking up their own Windows RT hardware for some time now, and Toshiba was one of the first to demonstrate their upcoming devices during the Computex 2012.
The devices included a tablet and a touchscreen laptop powered by a TI OMAP 4470 chip with a 1.8GHz dual-core A9 processor and the PowerVR SGX544 GFX graphics chip.

Today Intel announced a new class in laptops called UltraBooks at Computex 2011. These new breed of laptops which are meant to directly compete with Apple's MacBook Air will offer longer battery life, are less than an inch thick and priced under $1000. Intel is confident that by 2012 the Ultrabook will make up 40 percent of the consumer laptops sold worldwide.
Intel introduces Ultrabooks
Today Intel announced a new class in laptops called UltraBooks at Computex 2011. These new breed of laptops which are meant to directly compete with Apple's MacBook Air will offer longer battery life, are less than an inch thick and priced under $1000. Intel is confident that by 2012 the Ultrabook will make up 40 percent of the consumer laptops sold worldwide.The Ultrabooks will be made available in the 2011 holiday season and will be led by the Asus UX 21. The second wave of Ultrabooks will be released in 2012 with more to follow in 2013.
Intel is proposing that the Ultrabooks are fitted in with the latest technologies like SSD hard drives, Thunderbolt technology for connectivity, USB 3.0, Intel's 3D transistors and powered by Intel's 2nd generation Core series processors. By 2013 the third wave of Ultrabooks will feature intel's third generation Core processors, code named Haswell. Intel claims that Haswell powered Ultrabooks will be even thinner and have a longer battery life and reduced power consumption.
While we are still unclear why the PC industry takes years to follow the standards that Apple sets with it's devices, we know it takes just a little initiative from the PC manufacturers to ensure that we have amazing products at our fingertips. The Ultrabooks can usher in a new generation of devices in the PC category and we hope that the manufacturers will be up for the task.

With the Asus folks having quite a line up of tablets which they demonstrated during CES 2011, I wouldn't be surprised if we are treated to a sleek new smartphone.
