The Asus Transformer Prime is now receiving a software update which fixes a number of issues which have plagued the device for some time now. The update includes improved web page compatibility, a bug fix for the screensaver and an update to the Polaris Office suite.

There is no indication if there are any performance improvements with the update, but we would recommend that all users install it to improve stability and security.

The official change-log for the Asus Transformer Prime update is as follows:

1. ASUS IME - Fix the issue that in ASUS Spanish(US) and ASUS Dutch(Holland) IME, some characters cannot be typed or cannot be typed correctly.
   -
2. Gmail - Fix the issue that "Show quoted text” in Gmail does not work in a mail thread that is with 2+ messages.

3. Third party app - Upgrade Polaris Office to 3.5-build 5r16148FV06.
   -
4. Wi-Fi - Fix the issue that TF201 cannot connect with Wi-Fi AP that has Chinese character AP name.(SSiD)

5. Screen Saver - Fix the issue that the screen cannot resume to video playback but only audio playback after pressing power button when “Quick Launch” in Screen Saver settings is enabled.

6. Browser - Improve web page compatibility.

You will receive a notification when the update is available for the device and you will be able to download the update over-the-air (OTA). If you haven't received the notification, you can manually check for the update by heading over to Settings > About Tablet > System Update.

The Asus Transformer Prime users in Sweden are starting to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software update today. Hopefully this is a strong indication that the latest version of Android has past testing and certification phase and is ready for public consumption.

Asus has confirmed that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will be available for the Asus Transformer Prime, Asus Transformer Pad and the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity in the coming months.

Asus also shared the following statement:


Given Google’s new approach in releasing Android updates to OEMs we expect Jelly Bean to arrive much faster than ICS. The good news is that owners of one of the mentioned tablets can be assured that their investments are future proof for the near future at least.

Being the flagship Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich may be a bit too much for the Asus Transformer Prime to handle, as the company releases yet another ICS update to their tablet to improve usability.

This is the third update to the Transformer Prime and it takes the software to version 9.4.2.15. While an official change-log has still not been released, reports indicate it fixes the random rebooting which has been affecting some customers.

Being packed with a quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM makes the Transformer Prime the most sought after tablet after Apple iPad. If you are judging on specs along the Prime has the potential to take the number one tablet spot.

While the update from  9.4.2.14 to 9.4.2.15 may not be a large one, it is good to see Asus focussed on fine tuning their device

The Asus Transformer Prime maybe the sole Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) in the market right now, but it has been facing several software issues related to Wi-Fi and GPS. While Asus has been working hard to fix these issues, a new problem seams to have cropped up since the device was updated to ICS.

Some owners of the Prime have reported random freezing issues after installing the ICS software update.

Although the company has several other  bugs which they are working to fix, Asus' technical marketing overseer Gary Keys has confirmed that a fix for the freezing issue will be available in early February.

As the successor to one of the most popular tablets of it's time the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, the Prime had big shoes to fill. But even with it's slim design packing a quad core processor, the issues with Ice Cream Sandwich will surely cause potential customers to stay clear of the device. Asus needs to make sure their device is in 'prime' order before the Apple iPad 3 hits the market.

The news was announced during the NVidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang's keynote presentation during the CES 2012.

The update makes the Asus Transformer Prime the first Android ICS tablet available in the market. The Transformer Prime which is the successor to the Asus Eee Pad Transformer features a 10 inch display, 8MP camera, up to 64GB of internal storage, an optional keyboard dock and is powered by a quad core NVidia CPU.

If you own a Transformer Prime and have not received the update notification you can check if it is available manually under settings or wait for until you receive a notification from Asus.

10. Once '0' is displayed, type the following:
• adb remount
• adb push su /system/xbin/su
• adb shell chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
• adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbi/su
• adb shell /data/local/nachoroot.bin -undo

11. Once you have rebooted for the final time, download SuperUser from the Android Market.

The Asus Transformer Prime is demonstrated running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). This is the first we get to see of ICS running on a tablet as the only time Google demonstrated their latest version of Android it was running on the Google Galaxy Nexus.

The Asus Transformer Prime is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Prime will be the first tablet to feature NVidia's Tegra 3 quad-core processor. The tablet is available in two colors - champagne and amethyst gray with the 32GB model will cost $499.99  and the 64GB model will cost $599.99

NVidia demonstrates the Tegra 3 processor which will debut on the Asus Transformer Prime. The next generation mobile CPU from NVidia claims to provide desktop class performance. A total of four ARM Cortex A9 processors which go up to 1.3 GHz manage complex tasks while a fifth companion processor which is under-clocked at 500 MHz takes care of smaller tasks while protecting battery life.

We don't know much about Asus' upcoming tablet flagship but reports have pointed towards a quad-core processor and a 10" display on a sleeker frame than it's predecessor.
