Nubia X announced with dual screen and dual fingerprint sensor

Nubia X announced with dual screen and dual fingerprint sensor

ZTE offshoot Nubia has a different kind of smartphone exclusively for China known as the Nubia X, which takes a unique approach to capture selfies. Instead of having cameras on the front and back, it offers a secondary display on the rear of the device.

On the front, you have the 6.1-inch primary display with a 2280 x 1080 pixel resolution. The handset has a 19:9 aspect ratio with the display taking up most of the front with an impressive 93.6 percent screen-to-body ratio.

On the rear, you have a 5.1-inch secondary panel with a 1520 x 720 pixel resolution. This display can be used for "HD selfies", well as wallpapers, custom signatures, "dynamic" pictures, and even various advanced controls for high-quality gaming experiences.

Since you would be using the device is both modes, Nubia has also included not one, but two side-mounted fingerprint sensors for convenient right and left-handed unlocking.

The manufacturer has packed in a 3800mAh battery, which they feel is adequate to balance both displays. Nubia uses its proprietary technologies like NeoPower 3.0 "Smart Freeze" and states that the device delivers "reassuring" endurance times.

In terms of hardware, you get the best a 2018 Android flagship could offer with dual (16MP+24MP) rear cameras, up to 256GB of internal storage and Snapdragon 845 chipset with 8GB of RAM. On the software side, you get a heavily customized version of Android 8.1 Oreo.

As a China exclusive device, you can purchase the Nubia X with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM for 3299 yuan (around $475). The high-end model with 256GB storage and 8GB RAM will be priced at 4299 yuan (around $615). Both prices sound extremely reasonable in a western mobile landscape dominated by $1000 smartphones.

ZTE Nubia Z9 tease promises third generation of interaction

ZTE Nubia Z9 tease promises third generation of interactionThe ZTE Nubia Z9 is expected to be introduced on May 6, and a new teaser released on Tuesday in China asks us to expect a new way of interacting with the device.

According to Ni Fei, GM of ZTE, there have been two important events in smartphone history related to user interaction. The first, dating back to the 1990s, was the introduction of the Nokia physical QWERTY keyboard. The second was the unveiling of the touchscreen Apple iPhone in the 2000s. According to the teaser, a third such event will be coming with the unwrapping of the Nubia Z9. ZTE calls it the "third interaction revolution."

All this could be in reference to the bezel-less display the ZTE Nubia Z9 is expected to sport, along with a feature called 3D edge touch. This will allow the user to press on the edge of the screen where a bezel might normally be, will open the camera, activate the shutter, make phone calls and more. ZTE plans on opening up the 3D edge touch API for third parties to develop more features for it.

We don't know if this can compare to the impact made by the QWERTY keyboard by Nokia or the capacitive touchscreen by Apple on the iPhone, but we are keen to see how it all pans out.

ZTE Nubia Z9 Max sales delayed by one monthAccording to a post by ZTE on its Weibo page, the company is facing a delay in the sale of the ZTE Nubia Z9 Max by one month as a result of production issues. The handset was introduced by the company last month, alongside the ZTE Nubia Z9 mini, and was expected to go on sale tomorrow. ZTE blamed the delay on the complex production and manufacturing process required to build the Nubia Z9 Max.

Production issues delay the ZTE Nubia Z9 MaxThe ZTE Nubia Z9 Max is made with an aluminum body and has a double glass design. ZTE says that its QC measures and production process for the device are above industry standards.

ZTE Blade S6 officially announced with Lollipop and octa-core Snapdragon CPU

Not everyone can afford flagship smartphone prices, so its fortunate that Chinese manufacturers churn out classy looking devices which don’t dampen our wallets. We recently learned about the Meizu Blue Charm which costs only $112, now meet the ZTE Blade S6, a more powerful yet elegant looking device which comes at an affordable price.

The Blade S6 features a 5 inch laminated HD display, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13 megapixel rear camera, a 5 megapixel wide-angle front camera, a 2400mAh battery and an octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB of RAM. The device also has a fairly elegant design with 144 x 70.7 x 7.7mm measurements and Hi-fi sound with dedicated audio processor.

On the software side, you get Android 5.0 Lollipop, which ZTE has customized with its own UI. It has even added some enhancements such as Smart Sense – a clever set of gestures that can turn your flashlight on with a flick of the wrist, for example.

The ZTE Blade S6 will be available from AliExpress starting February 10th, with a more global rollout on February 27th, for the suggested retail price for the western market of $250 off-contract. ZTE promises it will be shipping it from UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Hong Kong.

ZTE ZMAX - Video Review

ZTE ZMax

Getting a strong user base isnt easy in a market like the US, which is dominated by devices from Apple and Samsung. However ZTE hopes to win some customers over with their affordable ZTE ZMAX phablet which hopes to grab your attention with its decent hardware and $250 price.

With its affordable price, a near stock Android experience and mid-range specs, the ZTE ZMAX is in no way set to replace an Apple iPhone 6 Plus or a Samsung Galaxy Note 4. But its meant for those on a budget, who are looking for a large screen device.

ZTE schedules event on September 16 in NYC

ZTEZTE has just shared a Vine announcing an event which will take place on September 16, at the Glasshouses in New York City. The  invitation suggests that the manufacturer will be showing us "the next hot thing" and that the event will include a performance from "this summer's hottest breakout artist."

Unfortunately ZTE hasn't revealed anything more about the device, so it is not clear if we will see a new smartphone, tablet or even a smartwatch. The company recently released the ZTE Nubia Z7 which matches its competitors in terms of specs, but the model is an exclusive to the Asian market. The U.S. market did however gain access to the ZTE Nubia Z5s mini earlier this month.

In any case, it is good to see that ZTE has avoided making its announcement amidst a busy first week of announcements at IFA 2014 and Apple's unveiling of their next iPhone.

ZTE Nubia 5S mini launches in the US

ZTE Nubia 5S mini launches in the US

The ZTE Nubia 5S mini is headed to the US for an unlocked price of only $280. The device is now available on pre-order at Amazon, and will start shipping out to users on August 27. It comes in an easily pocketable size and two amazing cameras which it hopes will help the device establish itself in this competitive market.

The Nubia 5S mini features a 4.7 inch 720p HD display, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13 megapixel rear camera with a f/2.2 iris, a 5 megapixel front camera for selfies, LTE connectivity, a 2000mAh battery and a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 2GB of RAM. You may not be getting the hardware power of the Google Nexus 5, but the Nubia 5S mini easily rivals the Google Nexus 4 and attempts to trump it in a few key areas.

However the ZTE Nubia 5S mini may not be running the latest version of Android, as it is said to be running the much older . ZTE has done an amazing job customizing the user interface, offering a unique experience. While some users may still prefer getting the latest versions of Android, ZTE hopes that their high end cameras and their vow to repair any damage (an $80 purchase) you inflict for any reason up to 18 months after purchase, will help them win over some customers.

ZTE announces Nubia Z7, Nubia Z7 mini and Nubia Z7 Max

ZTE Nubia Z7

Today ZTE announced a new lineup of Android 4.4 KitKat smartphones in its high-end Nubia series. The ZTE Nubia Z7 will succeed the ZTE Nubia Z5S, but it will also be accompanied by the ZTE Nubia Z7 Max and the ZTE Nubia Z7 mini.

The ZTE Nubia Z7 is the best of the set, with high end hardware worthy of a modern day flagship. Its specs include a 5.5 inch Quad-HD display with a 1440 by 2560 pixel resolution, 32GB of internal storage, a 13 megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 5 megapixel front camera and a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM. You also get 4G LTE connectivity and Dual SIM functionality.

As you will notice the hardware is in line with one of the top flagships in the market, the LG G3. ZTE has even managed to make their device more compact that LG's flagship and will have the device on sale in China for a respectable $550 (€410).

ZTE Nubia Z7 Max

Next in line we have the ZTE Nubia Z7 Max, which is nearly identical to the Nubia Z7. While the Max in the name usually suggests a larger display size, the handset has the same size display with a full 1080p HD resolution compared to the Quad-HD display on the flagship. The overall dimensions are also larger measuring at 152.7 x 76 x 8.7mm and the RAM has been reduced to 2GB from 3GB. Fortunately the handset does include microSD for storage expansion and a larger battery. The Nubia Z7 Max is being offered at a fairly modest $320 (€240).

ZTE Nubia Z7 mini

Finally we have the ZTE Nubia Z7 mini, which comes with a smaller 5 inch full 1080p HD display, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13 megapixel rear camera, a 5 megapixel front camera and a 2.0GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM.Surprisingly, however, the "mini" is quite elongated, taller than even the Z7 Max, at 140.9 x 69.3 x 8.2mm. The Nubia Z7 mini has a smaller, 2300 mAh battery, and a very affordable price tag of $240 (€180). The Nubia Z7 mini will also be offered in an array of colors but its not certain if the handsets will be offered outside of China.

What do you think of ZTE's new device lineup? Would you consider picking one up ?
