Yahoo yesterday introduced a brand new group chat app named Squirrel for the iOS and Android mobile platforms. The app allows you to organize different groups and create various topic based rooms. It also allows you to create secret rooms that only specific friends or family members can access.

Yahoo was once a popular name in the tech world, but has since failed out of relevance due to the various "Yahoo! data breaches," and its inability to keep up with the tech titans like Google, Apple and Microsoft.

Since then Yahoo has been acquired by Verizon, and continues to exist and update its web presence. This app is the company's latest product to enter the market.

The app is available on Android through the Google Play Store and for iOS devices through the Apple App Store. However in order to use the app you will have to request an invite code by sending an email to squirrel.invite@oath.com at this time.

Yahoo Mail for Android has been updated to version 4.8.2 which brings several new features and improvements to the email client. While Yahoo may not be considered the go to email by many, its still used by millions of people and its about time it got some attention.

Interestingly the update takes the Yahoo Mail app beyond providing just your email. Yahoo has been working to make its mail app a hub for several of its other services. Yahoo continues to make its presence felt in the mobile space and makes sure that its mobile apps stay current and up to date. The update aims to make it easier between capturing, editing and sharing an image. This is partially done by allowing you to edit your pictures in real-time with full control with filters, vignettes, auto-enhance, and more professional options like color balance, levels, and exposure.

The update also brings the ability to capture short videos with Flickr. Vine gives you 6 seconds, Instagram gives you 15, and Flickr now offers 30 second HD video capture complete with filters that can be applied after you're done shooting. There are even editing features so you can remove segments from your recording.

Unfortunately, there is a distinct difference in these features between iOS and Android. On iOS, you can apply filters to the live preview before you actually take a picture or record video. On Android, you can only apply filters to photos after you've taken them, and there are no filter options for video.

The last feature addition does exist on both iOS and Android, and that is auto-syncing. This is the same as the auto-upload feature that you'll find in apps like Facebook, Google+, and Dropbox, but the big difference is that Flickr gives you 1TB of cloud storage for free, which is exponentially more than any other photo service that handles HD media.

Yahoo Mail has been updated across iOS, Android and Windows in celebration of 16 years with the webmail service. The update brings several new features and improvements, including a redesigned interface, conversations and 1TB of free storage for your email and attachments.

Conversations allows emails to be grouped in threads. This lets you see an entire conversation between you and a friend and save a bit of time. You can turn off the conversations feature in the App's settings.

The redesigned interface makes it easier to get access to the features you use the most. Things you do all of the time like search, starring, and deleting are now one-click actions that appear when you hover over an email. Additionally the left hand toolbar can now be collapsed so you can use more of your display area.

The update also brings other new features which were previously reserved for premium Mail Plus users. Those features include disposable email addresses, enhanced filters and automatic message forwarding. Yahoo Mail users will now get 1TB (1000 GB) of free storage, which is a lot more than any of their competitors.
