All eyes were on the Motorola Droid Bionic back at CES 2011 where it was first introduced. Then Motorola would replace the device they revealed with a model with a better form factor which was later launched on September 8th of that year.
Sadly the Droid Bionic would later fade into oblivion making room for the Motorola Droid RAZR and the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX with its ample 3300mAh battery. However it looks like the Droid Bionic will be getting some new life in the form of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which will arrive for the device during the second quarter of 2013.
The Droid Bionic features a 4.3-inch display, 16GB of internal storage, an 8 megapixel camera capable of capturing HD video at 720p, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM.

Now much like the Motorola Droid 4 users, the Droid Bionic users can enjoy all the features and improvements of Android 4.1, including the performance improvements of project butter, the digital assistance of Google Now and the actionable notifications.

Now all that remains to be updated to Android 4.1 is the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE for Sprint.

Last month Motorola revealed their Android 4.0 ICS update plans for their devices and the Motorola Droid Bionic received Android ICS on Friday making it the last scheduled device to receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Now the company is looking forward and have revealed which of their devices will receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software update.

The list suggests that the Motorola Droid RAZR M, Motorola Droid RAZR HD and the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD will be the first to receive the Jelly Bean update before the end of this year. The Motorola ATRIX HD, Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE, Motorola Droid RAZR, Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX, Motorola Droid 4 and the Motorola Droid Bionic will also be updated to Android 4.1.

The Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi has already been updated to Android 4.1 and has even received the latest Android 4.1.2 update. The 3G and LTE variants of the XOOM and the Motorola XOOM Family Edition will receive the update during this quarter.



It is great to see that Motorola has picked up their pace on Android updates, and hope the trend will continue in the coming months. Especially as we are getting set for Android 4.2 to be revealed at the Android Event next week.

Motorola Droid Bionic users have been waiting for almost a year for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and it looks like that time may have arrived. A select group of Motorola users are reported to have received invitations to take part in a soak test for the device and we assume this could be for Android 4.0.

A soak test is generally performed by Motorola on a small number of handsets, before the official release of the update. The soak tests are meant to ensure the update is fully ready for public consumption. In order to be eligible to partake in soak tests you have to own a Motorola device and be a part of the Motorola Feedback Network. The content of the soak tests are generally confidential and users are not allowed to share information about the ongoing tests with the public.

Considering the time it took Motorola to bring Android 4.0 to the Bionic, it is unlikely that the device will be upgraded to a newer version of the software.

The Motorola Droid Bionic has received a maintenance update (5.9.905) which brings a few improvements and enhancements to the aging handset. Users will be able to initiate the OTA (over-the-air) update once they receive a notification, instructing them to obtain it.

While the Droid Bionic may not be in line to receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, any form of improvements to the stability of the
smartphone will always be welcome.


The update for the Motorola Droid Bionic has the following new features and improvements

• Re-calibrated volume call connect and disconnect tones to be more comfortable for Bluetooth users.
• Improved Visual Voice Mail to ensure delivery of a notification to the status bar.
• Data stalls have been reduces to improve 4G LTE connectivity.

On top of that it was reported that the Droid RAZR would be getting Android 4.0



Now Bionic customers can find some happiness in the fact that they will get to savor the features of Android ICS alongside the RAZR users.
