Republic Wireless introduces Maestro to pay back subscribers for unused data
Hybrid Wi-Fi/Cellular carrier and Sprint MVNO Republic Wireless says that the average smartphone user is paying $16 a month for service they never use. So starting on May 18th, Republic subscribers selected to beta test its Maestro "Lab" will receive a refund at the end of each month for the amount of data that they pay for, but don't use.Republic has some other Labs that they are testing over the next nine months including Salsa, which will test out a smooth handover from cell networks to Wi-Fi. So far, Republic has figured out how to make "seamless Wi-Fi to cell" connections and is hoping to be able to do it the other way around. Hi-Hat is a Lab that will allow beta testers to decide which phones Republic will offer next. Bridge will allow Republic subscribers to access their phone and messages from other devices like a tablet or desktop computer. Lastly, Tempo will allow beta testers to try out phones that connect to an extended cellular network for those times when Republic subscribers are not able to access a Wi-Fi network.
Republic Wireless offers a range of low priced monthly plans starting at $5 a month for unlimited talk, text and data over Wi-Fi. The priciest plan, $40 a month, offers unlimited talk, text and 4G data using a combination of Wi-Fi and cellular networks. With this plan you are entitled to 5GB of high-speed data over the cellular network before getting throttled. Phones available with the carrier include a 16GB second-generation Motorola Moto X ($399), 16GB first-generation Motorola Moto X ($299), 16GB first-generation Motorola Moto G ($149) and the 16GB first-generation Motorola Moto E ($99).

According to the Republic Wireless blog, the update should be available to all Moto G and Moto E users within a week or so. - The phone app has been redesigned to focus more on your contacts. Contacts will be shown when you access the phone app. To dial a new number, you will have to tap the dialer icon first.
- Immersive mode will allow videos, books, etc... to completely fill the screen. In order to see the controls, buttons, etc... when in full screen mode, you will have to swipe down on the screen to reveal them.
- Activation process - We have streamlined the activation process to make sure you can get up and running on your Republic device as quickly as possible. These changes were introduced with the Moto E, and will now be consistent. The new activation process will only be visible to first time users.

Republic Wireless to offer Moto Maker customization for Motorola Moto X
Republic Wireless has announced that they will be offering Motorola's Moto Maker services to customers on their network who are looking to purchase a Motorola Moto X. The Moto Maker service allows you to customize your Moto X with over different 4000 combinations, including the ability to set the front, rear and accent colors, or even use a special wood-backing, among other options.
The Moto Maker service is one of the greatest advantages of purchasing a Moto X, so all those on Republic Wireless who have been waiting for this option can now take advantage of it.
The option will be available for customers starting Tuesday, April 1 (no joke), and customers will have all the colors and options at their disposal. As an incentive, Republic Wireless said it will allow the first 2,000 folks to upgrade to the wood or Bamboo backing for free. The 16GB model with Moto Maker will cost $350, while a 32GB model will be priced at $400.
Moto Maker offers a choice of 27 different back colors (not including the wood finishes), select from white or black for the front, and pick from ten colors for the Moto X’s accents (power key, volume key, camera bezel). Customers can also add a signature or personalized message on the back of the phone.

Motorola Moto G coming to Republic Wireless for $149 contract free
The Motorola Moto G is quickly becoming a very popular device. In fact it was recently named Motorola's most popular smartphone of all time. Even though it lacks LTE connectivity, its stellar battery life, overall performance and affordable price tag have led the device to rise in popularity. Now the Moto G is headed to the Wi-Fi-hybrid-cellular carrier, Republic Wireless, where it will cost just $149 free free of contracts.
For $149 you will get the 8GB model, whilst the 16GB variant will cost you $179. Other specs include a 4.5 inch HD touch display, a 5 MP rear camera, a 1.2 MP front facing camera and is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM. Republic will also offer a variety of color backs for your Moto G (sold separately).
Republic Wireless offers some amazingly low plans, which can cost as low as $5 per month (Wi-Fi only plan). There is also a $10 per month plan which adds unlimited talk and text on cellular. $25 per month throws in unlimited everything, Wi-Fi and cellular (data is throttled after 5GB).
The Motorola Moto X was introduced on Republic Wireless back in November, bringing solutions like improved Wi-Fi-to-cellular handoffs. It is assumed that the Moto G will offer these same solutions. Since Republic’s disposition is as a Wi-Fi-first network carrier, you cannot bring your own device to take advantage of the mobile savings. However, $149 for a contract-free device certainly might make the transition easier.

The carrier is offering the handset at just $299 off contract, which is by far the best deal you will find for the device.Keep in mind though that Republic Wireless is an MVNO on the Sprint network, and you device is locked on Republic Wireless without a SIM card. So even though you have an off contract device, you won't be able to switch to another carrier.
