NVIDIA SHIELD tablet now available for purchase

The NVIDIA SHIELD tablet was announced last week and immediately offered on pre-order to those who were interested in purchasing the gaming slate. Starting today the new tablet is available for purchase and costs $299 for its 16GB variant. Keep in mind that this is the Wi-Fi only model. An LTE-enabled model with 32GB of internal memory is expected to be released at a later date at a price of $399.

According to NVIDIA, the SHIELD Tablet is "the first with the muscle to handle the technologies that make PC gaming great". This claim can be greatly attributed to NVIDIA's own Tegra K1 chipset, which has a 192-core Kepler GPU. The setup is run by a 2.2GHz ARM Cortex-A15 processor and 2GB of RAM. The tablet specs include an 8-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels, stereo speakers, NVIDIA DirectStylus 2, 5MP rear and front-facing cameras.

NVIDIA is also offering a Shield Wireless Controller and a Shield Tablet Cover, but these are being sold separately, for $59.99 and $39.99, respectively.

You dont have to be an avid gamer to enjoy the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet. It offers a nice set of features while not costing too much. Those who are primarily purchasing this device for gaming, should probably opt for the controller in order to fully enjoy the experience. The new slate seems to be available only in the US for now, and you can get it via the source link below.
