The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is now receiving the Android 4.0.4 software update which is the latest version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Note that the update may not be available on your device immediately as it is released at different times depending on the operator and country.
This is the second ICS update for the Xperia Ray which follows Android 4.0.3 update which was released back in April.
In order to update to ICS you will have to connect your phone to your computer using the Sony PC Companion software for PC | MAC

The Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Ray owners in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Norway will be the first in line for the update which will rollout to other global markets in the next 4 - 6 weeks.
Older Xperia handsets will not be receiving the ICS update over the air and will have to connect your device to your computer through the Sony PC Suite software in order to receive the update. You can head over to http://www.sonymobile.com/update for instruction on how to upgrade your device.
If you own an Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Active or the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman you will have to wait until the end of May or early June for Android ICS to arrive on your device.

Sony Ericsson has surprisingly officially released an alpha build of Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) with the TimeScape UI for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray.
If you feel adventurous and want to try out this early ICS build on your device you can use our step-by-step guide which follows:
NOTE - This is an alpha build and many required features are still non functional. If you are planning to use this device on a day to day basis we would recommend not installing ICS until Sony Ericsson releases the final build.
NOTE - Currently features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Calls are non functional. This build is for testing purposes to give the user an idea of what to expect in the final build of ICS for your Xperia device.

- Unlock your device bootloader.
- Download Android Ice Cream Sandwich for the Xperia Ray.
- Download and Intall the Android SDK and setup adb/fastboot.
- Extract the contents of the .zip file downloaded in Step 2
- Use command prompt and navigate to your fastboot directory
- Flash the three files found in the zip file using fastboot. Replace the paths with your own paths in the following commands.
- fastboot flash boot ..\Fastboot\Xperia_arcS_ICS_alpha\boot.img
- fastboot flash userdata ..\Fastboot\Xperia_arcS_ICS_alpha\userdata.img
- fastboot flash system ..\Fastboot\Xperia_arcS_ICS_alpha\system.img
- Reboot your Sony Ericsson Xperia device.
If you have followed the steps correctly you should have successfully installed Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray
