Twitter for iOS was updated almost immediately, but Android users were kept waiting until today. In order to get the new feature, you will have to download the latest version directly on your device through the Google Play Store or using the following link


When you tap to retweet someone and you pick the option to quote the tweet, instead of the usual "@username: tweet", you will see the embedded tweet and a space to add a comment with over 100 characters left to share your intricate thoughts.

Another enhancement to Twitter for Android is the new Trends feature which combines the Discover and Activity Tabs. Trends is currently only available in the US and offers a slightly cleaner look, with the three top tabs gone and only the main blue menu bar remaining.

In order to quote a tweet, users will have to tap or press the Retweet button and select "Quote Tweet" from the options menu. The revamped "quote tweet" gives the user a clutter-free experience while quoting a tweet as it shows an embedded tweet and provides an additional 116 charactors for your comments alongside the quoted tweet.

The Vine for Windows Phone app has remained on version 1.1 for quite some time until now, collecting negative reviews regarding its lack of features compared to iOS and Android versions of the app. With this new updates, the app is almost in parity with its iOS and Android counterparts, so fans should be happy with Vine for some time.

In the recent past, you would have noticed that Twitter was rapidly releasing updates to its Android app, to bring it in line with its iOS counterpart. Among its new features, Twitter for Android has gained the ability to edit and share video. With the inclusion of Vine, all the microblogging service was missing is live streaming.

Periscope is still probably a work in progress, but whatever it brings to the table, the acquisition is not unlike Twitter’s buyout of Vine back in 2012, which was also in a closed Beta at the time. Given Periscope’s focus of streaming live video like other startups, Meerkat or YouNow, it stands to reason that we will see a close relationship to Twitter’s features as the application nears completion.

The live streaming features of Periscope should fit in very well with Twitter's usual style of wide-open rapid communication.

Vine for iOS version 2.2.0 has the following new features and improvements:

• Get around the Vine app faster with a new navigation tab bar
• More video viewing room: the top bar now scrolls away for more space.
• Choose to share a Vine publicly or as a message right from the share screen.

Twitter for Windows Phone version 3.2 has the following new features and improvements:

• Tag your friends in a photo to start a conversation.
• Capture the moment by uploading multiple photos to a single Tweet.
• Tweets with Twitter photos, Vine videos and other select content now show a preview in your home timeline
• You can reply, retweet, favorite or follow someone straight from a Tweet in your home timeline.
• Share photos through Direct Messages.

Unfortunately the Vine for Windows Phone has still to receive this new feature, and there is no timeline for this feature arriving on Microsoft's mobile platform.

Apart from counting each and every 6-second loop, Vine now comes with a slightly redesigned and, better organized interface. The vines now stretch from edge to edge, making full use of your display's real estate. You will also notice that if you are an avid Vine user that browses the app on a regular basis, then you'd probably find the slightly bigger icons that allow you to like, comment, or share a vine a tad more convenient to hit while on the move. Additionally, the app will notify you if any of your own vines surpasses a certain milestone.

Twitter for BlackBerry 10 version 10.3.1.219 has the following new features and improvements:

Vine direct messages can be sent to contacts via email or SMS. However, if you are on Vine, you can choose only to receive messages from you are friends with or following. There is no group messaging option, like with Instagram, but you can send the same video to multiple people, which will start 1-on-1 conversations with each of those people.

There is no news on if and when the direct messages update will arrive to Vine for Windows Phone users.

The Twitter #music service made headlines when it launched a little over a year ago, offering Twitter users discover new music and new artists. Unfortunately we didn't hear much about the service since its debut and it looks like it may soon be discontinued.

Twitter recently announced that they will be removing their official Twitter #music for iOS app from the App Store and that all existing installs stop working on April 18. Twitter hasn't revealed why it's pulling the plug on #music, but it did promise that it will "continue to experiment with new ways to bring you great content based on the music activity every day on Twitter."

Despite the fact that it was being pushed by Twitter and featured integration with services like Rdio, Spotify and iTunes, Twitter #music never seemed to catch on with consumers. Twitter always seems to be testing ways to engage its users more and become something bigger than a service to share 140-character status updates, and Twitter #music wanted to turn the social network into a place for users to not only interact with their favorite artists, but listen to and purchase their music as well.

Twitter is experimenting with a new feature called “Fave People,” which allows you to keep track of your favorite Twitter users and accounts in a separate timeline. This feature, essentially a more user-friendly version of Twitter’s “Lists,” recently appeared in the alpha version of Twitter’s Android application – the app where the company tests new features and changes before rolling them out to beta testers, and then, finally, to the general public.

The alpha app currently uses a “swipeable” menu across the top for navigation in between sections like “Home,” “Discover,” “Activity,” and more. “Fave People” has a fairly prominent position there, at least for now, as it’s placed directly to the right of the main (“Home”) timeline. When you tap into this section for the first time, the app explains how “Fave People” works, saying:

Keep track of your favoritesTap the star icon on the profiles of your favorite people to see their Tweets in this timeline. You can also chose to receive notifications when they tweet from Settings.

A button beneath this message lets you hop into your “Following” section in order to start picking out your favorite fellow Twitter users. This could be a bit of a time-consuming process for those who follow dozens, hundreds or even more, on Twitter. In other words, it’s not necessarily a more efficient means of building a list, compared with the built-in Twitter “Lists” function offered today. It’s really just using more accessible terminology (“Fave People”) to highlight the capabilities of that often overlooked feature.

However, what “Fave People” could do better is to serve as a dedicated section where you can turn on or off Twitter notifications from important accounts. For example, if there are a handful of breaking news sources you follow, you could toggle them on and off here, as need be. You may want to receive notifications from these accounts while particular events are going on, or if you’re following a breaking news story, including, perhaps, an emergency situation. Other times, you may want to disable those alerts in order to get a little peace and quiet.

Note that the appearance of “Fave People” for mobile testers doesn’t necessarily imply that this feature will roll out to the wider public anytime soon. If testers don’t find the feature engaging, Twitter could still scrap it and focus on something else instead.

Also, in case it’s unclear, the ability to “favorite” accounts on Twitter has been available previously for some, but this “Fave People” section is something new.

Samsung was one of the major sponsors of tonight's academy awards. The company took the opportunity to debut their first Galaxy S5 ads during the award ceremony, but also made sure they outfitted the host, Ellen Degeneres with a Galaxy Note 3. Ellen would first take a selfie of herself on stage followed by one circled by some of the attendees.

Ellen then said that she would send the picture out as a tweet and instructed the huge television audience to re-tweet the message in an attempt to break the record for most popular tweet of all time.

As it turns out, it was mission accomplished for Degeneres, whose tweet can be found below.


In fact the tweet from @TheEllenShow broke the previous record which showed President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama embracing after the president won re-election in November 2012. The tweet even broke twitter due to the immense surge of traffic which resulted from the retweeting.
