Qualcomm introduces its new Snapdragon processorsQualcomm has announced that they will be retiring their S1, S2, S3 and S4 series mobile chips and introducing a new generation of processors. The new chips will remain under the Snapdragon name but will have new number identifiers – 200, 400, 600 and 800. They also promise to offer impressive advances in power and speed.

The Snapdragon 200 and 400 chips will be used on low-end budget devices while the 600 and 800 series will be on more powerful high-end devices.

The Snapdragon 800 will be a larger leap forward with each core running at 2.3GHz with a promise of a 75% performance improvement. It will also include the Adreno 330 GPU which is expected to offer double the graphics power, a faster LTE Category 4 modem, improved Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, QFHD video recording, support for up to 2560 x 2048 pixel resolutions and improvements in power consumptions. These chipsets are expected to arrive on smartphones and tablets around the middle of this year.
