Apple has wrapped up WWDC 2026, giving developers and consumers their first look at the next generation of software coming to iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro devices.
While every platform received updates, one theme dominated the keynote: artificial intelligence.
More specifically, Apple spent much of the event showing how Siri and Apple Intelligence will evolve as the company attempts to compete with rivals such as Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT.
Siri Gets Its Biggest Upgrade Yet
The headline announcement from WWDC 2026 was Apple's rebuilt Siri experience.
Apple says Siri is becoming significantly more conversational, context-aware, and capable of understanding complex requests across apps and services.
The company also demonstrated how Siri can better understand ongoing conversations, personal context, and information stored across Apple devices.
For Apple users, this represents the most significant Siri update since the assistant first launched.
Apple Intelligence Expands
Apple also expanded Apple Intelligence across its ecosystem.
New AI-powered tools are designed to help users:
- Manage information more efficiently
- Generate content
- Summarize information
- Improve productivity
- Interact more naturally with Siri
Apple continues emphasizing privacy, with many AI features designed to run on-device whenever possible.
iOS 27
The next version of iPhone software introduces new Apple Intelligence integrations alongside improvements to productivity, communication, and personalization.
Many of the platform's biggest changes are tied directly to Siri and Apple's broader AI strategy.
Siri can help in various situations to help enhance your photos. Talking about photos, the editing tools on Apple have finally caught up to the competitors with features like Spatial Reframing, Extend and an enhanced cleanup. The cartoony Image Playground is seeing some updates with Apple's new generative model. Shortcuts are taking advantage of AI, but letting you describe the shortcuts you want to assemble. The Home app is seeing some updates, where it can intelligently, stitch together footage from multiple cameras during playback and summarize events.
Passwords is seeing a significant upgrade, where it can now automatically fix eligible weak and compromised passwords. Apple also showed off improvements to the email app, which assists better in your writing tasks. The Messages app and Phone app also get the intelligence boost, making their use more efficient and fluent. The Phone app for example, is now able to find relevant information across your apps when you call a business - like confirmation codes or relevant reservation numbers. Finally the Calendar app lets you quickly add events and keep your schedule up to date, just by describing the event you want to create or modify.
While the features themselves may not feel very new or exciting, Apple's focus with iOS 27 has been primarily under the hood. The update aims to make the iPhone more responsive and reliable to use. This is something users have been asking for since iOS 26. Apple has addressed some of the primary complaints with Liquid Glass, allowing users to select how much of the 'glassy' effect they need. Outside of the visuals, the company has worked alot in the back end, boosting the underlying performance.
Apple also continues refining the overall user experience while expanding AI-powered assistance throughout the operating system.
iPadOS 27
Apple continues its effort to make the iPad feel more capable as a productivity device.
iPadOS 27 introduces improvements aimed at multitasking, workflow management, and desktop-style experiences while also benefiting from the new Apple Intelligence features announced during the event.
For many users, iPadOS 27 may represent another step toward narrowing the gap between iPad and Mac.
macOS 27
macOS 27 brings Apple's latest AI features to the Mac while continuing to refine the desktop experience.
The update focuses on productivity, intelligence, and deeper integration between Apple's software platforms.
Alongside the updates we have seen on iOS, Apple's desktop users will see the Visual Intelligence expand to the Mac. You can now search and ask questions using the content on your screen.
Safari can now periodically check a website for updates, like price changes or item availability. Where was this feature when we were trying to buy GPUs or waiting on Pokemon card drops.
As expected, Apple Silicon remains at the center of Apple's desktop strategy.
watchOS 27
Apple Watch users can expect new software features focused on health, fitness, and smarter interactions.
The Dynamic app grid, highlights your most used and recently used apps allowing you to focus on whats most important. The new Workout buddy stays with you on your Apple Watch, motivating you on your workouts, even if you dont have your phone with you.
A new one-handed gesture - A single tap with your index finger and thumb - lets you select a widget within the Smart Stack and manage your Stack more efficiently. You also get new suggested widgets, intelligently bringing what you need most to the forefront.
WatchOS also brings update to the Wallet, FindMy and improvements to how your Watch corresponds with your phone.
Apple is increasingly leveraging AI and machine learning to deliver more personalized insights and recommendations across its wearable ecosystem.
visionOS 27
Apple's Vision Pro platform also received updates designed to improve spatial computing experiences.
New features focus on usability, productivity, and deeper integration with Apple's growing AI ecosystem.
Apple continues to position Vision Pro as a long-term platform despite questions surrounding adoption and pricing.
No Major Hardware Announcements
Unlike some previous Apple events, WWDC 2026 remained largely focused on software and AI.
No major consumer hardware announcements were made during the keynote, reinforcing Apple's message that software and intelligence are now at the center of its strategy.
The Bigger Picture
WWDC 2026 may ultimately be remembered as the event where Apple fully committed to the AI race.
While Google spent I/O 2026 discussing the Agentic Era and Microsoft recently introduced Scout, Apple's answer is clear: a smarter Siri and a more capable Apple Intelligence platform.
The next few months will determine whether Apple's approach can convince users that Siri is finally ready to compete with modern AI assistants.
