WhatsApp for iOS has received a small but important security-focused update that makes it easier to keep your private conversations protected.
After updating to the latest version of WhatsApp, iPhone users can now lock the app behind Face ID or Touch ID authentication.
WhatsApp Adds Biometric Security
The new feature allows users to prevent unauthorized access to WhatsApp even if their iPhone is already unlocked.
Once enabled, opening WhatsApp will require biometric authentication using:
- Face ID
- Touch ID
- iPhone biometric authentication
The update adds another layer of protection for users who store sensitive conversations, media, or work-related discussions inside the app.
How To Enable Screen Lock
You can enable the feature directly inside WhatsApp by following these steps:
Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
Go to Settings > Account > Privacy.
Select Screen Lock.
Enable Face ID or Touch ID authentication.
After enabling the feature, WhatsApp will request biometric verification every time the app is opened.
Notifications Still Work
Even with Screen Lock enabled, some WhatsApp functionality will continue working normally.
Users can still:
- View notifications if message previews are enabled
- Use iOS quick reply features
- Receive calls and alerts
That means the feature improves app security without dramatically affecting everyday usability.
