Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 announced - A midrange chipset with enhanced AI and "cutting edge" photography

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform as the latest entry in their mid-range Snapdragon 600 series. These series of chipsets offer improved gaming performance, a step up in AI functionality, and a "cutting-edge" camera.

The mobile platform includes the Snapdragon X12 modem support for downlink speeds of up to 600Mbps and 3x carrier aggregation. You also get Bluetooth 5 support, Quick Charge 4+ to charge your battery from 0% to 50% in just 15 minutes, and Qualcomm's Aqstic and aptX audio technologies.

The Snapdragon 675 features the Kryo 460 octa-core CPU which is clocked with up to 2GHz with two performance cores and six efficiency cores. This results in a 20% improvement in overall performance. You also get the support for up to 8GB of RAM and the Adreno 612 GPU which offers a high frame-rate and smooth gaming experience.

The chipset comes with the Qualcomm 250L ISP (Image Signal Processor), which allows for professional grade photos and videos in the day and night. The chip will support triple camera setups in back and front, including telephoto (up to 5x optical zoom), wide angle, and super-wide image capture. It also will enable enhanced portrait mode for the Bokeh fan, 3D face unlock, and will deliver what Qualcomm calls "epic" selfies. HD slow-motion recording and playback is offered at 480fps.

The multi-core AI engine in the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform improves AI applications by up to 50%. Qualcomm says that the chip helps mobile devices capture information through "photos and videos, learning and adapting to a user’s voice, and optimizing battery life." The chipset allows AI apps to run faster and more efficiently.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform is now available, and could be seen on consumer devices by the first quarter of 2019.
