Motorola Droid 4 receives Android 4.1 software update

The Motorola Droid 4 is now receiving the  software update. We previously reported that the update was on its way for the device, and it looks like that time has finally arrived. The OTA (over-the-air) update will be pushed out in waves, which means that the update may take a few days before it is available for all devices.

The update brings the 18.XT894.Verizon.en.US software version and is around 356MB in size so be sure your device is fully charged and that you are connected to Wi-Fi before attempting to update. If you haven't received the update notification, you can manually check for the update by heading over to Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Download. If you don’t see it, give it a day or two to be pushed to you device.

The update should take between 35 to 60 minutes to download and an additional 15 to 20 minutes to install. You wont be able to make calls or send messages during the installation.

The Motorola Droid 4 is a capable handset with a  4 inch touch display, a QWERTY keyboard, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a 1.3 megapixel secondary camera capable of 720p HD video capture and powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

The Android 4.1 update for the Droid 4 will bring great features like the performance improvements and lag-free responsiveness of Project Butter along with the Google Now digital assistant. Google Now will bring you all the information you need, including traffic on your daily commute, weather, sports scores, stock prices and more.

The update also adds several enhancements to the notification screen which allow you to return calls, view pictures and video and respond to email directly from the notifications pane. Additionally Voice Search will allow you to search the web using your voice and you will get voice responses. You will also get an update to the Smart Keyboard, which predicts the next word before you type it. Voice typing even works when you are offline. The update will also improve voice and data connectivity.
