Angry Birds Rio coming soon

Archive notice: This is a historical post from early 2011 previewing the upcoming release of Angry Birds Rio. The game has since launched across all platforms. Content is preserved for reference.

The next chapter in the Angry Birds story was almost upon us at the time of writing. Tying in with the Fox animated film Rio, which was set to release on April 15, 2011, Angry Birds Rio was announced for iPhone, Android, and Nokia Symbian^3 devices with a launch planned for March 2011.

In Angry Birds Rio, the original flock is kidnapped and taken to Rio de Janeiro, where they escape their captors and set out to rescue Blu and Jewel, two rare macaws and the stars of the Fox motion picture. The game was set to launch with 45 dedicated levels, with new levels promised via app updates after release. Like the original Angry Birds, Rio would feature physics-based demolition gameplay with unique twists inspired by the film, designed for hours of play and strong replay value across smartphones and tablets worldwide.
