Before you begin
Requirements
- A jailbroken iPhone 3GS
- OpenSSH installed on your device
- A computer with SFTP access (Mac or Windows)
- A full backup of your device
Setup and tools
- Jailbreak your device using a guide from here
- Install OpenSSH from Cydia (restart your device after installing)
- Download an SFTP client:
Connect to your iPhone
Use your SFTP client with the following settings:
- Host/IP: Your iPhone’s IP (Settings → Wi-Fi)
- Username: root
- Password: alpine
- Protocol: SFTP (Cyberduck) or SCP (WinSCP)
Tip: For security, consider changing the default root password after connecting for the first time.
Download required files
Apply the HD video tweak
- Navigate to:
/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ - Copy
N88AP.plistinto this directory - Next, go to:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Celestial.framework/N88/ - Copy the following files into this folder:
AVCapture.plistCameraRollValidator.plistMediaValidator.plist
Once the files are in place, restart your device.
Final result
After rebooting, your iPhone 3GS should now be capable of recording video at higher resolutions than the default settings allow.
