Samsung has announced two new members of the Galaxy smartphone family - the  and the . The new Android handsets are part of Samsung's Galaxy A series - which is tailored for "young consumers seeking practicality and functionality" - and are presented as the company’s slimmest smartphones to date.

Both Galaxy A series handsets feature "full metal unibody" designs, and Samsung claims that they have been optimized for social networking with LTE connectivity and 5 MP front-facing cameras for "vivid selfies."

The Galaxy A5 is the more premium of the two, it is 6.7mm thin like the recently released Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The Galaxy A5 has a 5 inch Super AMOLED display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, a 13MP rear camera, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 2300 mAh battery and a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.

The Galaxy A3 features a 4.5 inch Super AMOLED display with a 540 x 960 pixel resolution, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8MP rear camera, a 1900mAh battery and a similar 1.2GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The Galaxy A3 is slightly thicker at 6.9 mm.

Both the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A3 run Android 4.4 KitKat and will be available in a variety of colors, including Pearl White, Midnight Black, Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, Light Blue, and Soft Pink. Customers will be able to buy any of the two smartphones starting November, with China being one of the first markets to get them. Official pricing details haven’t been revealed.
