Get the Motorola Moto G6 Play for only $80 at Best Buy

Get the Motorola Moto G6 Play for only $80 at Best Buy

The Motorola Moto G6 Play is already the most affordable of the Moto G6 lineup, but Best Buy is sweetening the deal further by offering the handset for only $80. That's a massive $120 off its usual retail price.

While the handset itself is unlocked, you will have to activate it on Sprint immediately at Best Buy in order to get the low price. Customers could also opt to activate it with AT&T and Verizon, but doing so would bring the price up to $130.

If you don't want to activate the Moto G6 Play, and want to do so at a later time you would have to pay $180 for the handset at Best Buy, which is still a $20 discount.

The Motorola Moto G6 Play features a 5.7-inch display, 32GB of internal storage with microSD, a 13MP rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, a fingerprint scanner and a Snapdragon 427 chipset with 3GB of RAM. It comes with Android 8.0 Oreo onboard, but you will be able to update it to Android 9 Pie very soon.

Both wearables are water-resistant up to 5 meters deep, also meeting MIL-STD 810G standards for top-notch durability.

Samsung has even included a heart rate monitor with the Galaxy Fit, something usually reserved for higher priced wearables. you even get features like "enhanced sleep analysis" and "smart stress management" which sets the Galaxy Fit apart from other affordable wearables.

Because of the way they are designed, the batteries on these fitness trackers can last for several days.

On the software side, the interface is described as "simple and intuitive", with alarms, weather information, and calendar events synced to your wearable's widget directly from your phone without you having to ever reach for your pocket.

Release and Availability

While we know these fitness trackers are meant to be affordable, Samsung has still to reveal an official price for either one. We expect it would be in the $100 range.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active announced

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active announced

Besides unveiling the new Galaxy S10 series and the Galaxy Fold, Samsung also introduced the world to some new wearables, the Galaxy Watch Active, and the Galaxy Fit series.

The Galaxy Watch Active is probably Samsung's sleekest smartwatch to date. Samsung has decided to scrap the popular rotating bezel for a thinner and sleeker one wrapped around the 1.1-inch circular AMOLED display. The rest of the device is made up of its aluminum casing paired with a rubber strap. The Galaxy Watch Active also features two round physical buttons along the right side which replace the previous pill-shaped ones. On the rear is a new glass panel on the rear that houses a heart rate monitor.

Samsung has outfitted the Galaxy Watch Active with a 236mAh battery. In comparison to previous devices, this battery is quite a bit smaller. However, the smaller display size and the new dual-core Exynos 9110 chipset will continue to ensure a full day of use with this wearable.

Completing the entire setup is 4GB of storage paired with Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC support for mobile payments. Unfortunately, the wearable isn’t available with 3G or 4G LTE support.

Software

The Galaxy Watch Action runs the latest version of Tizen OS which brings several UI updates in the hopes to offer a unified experience across Samsung's entire product lineup.

Similar to One UI, which is Samsung’s custom Android skin, this updated version of Tizen relies heavily on dark backgrounds and splashes of color where necessary. This allows the device to fully take advantage of the AMOLED display, turning off the pixels and saving battery life when displaying black colors.

Samsung has opted to focus heavily on the user's health and physical activities. The new version of Tizen highlights three main goals to focus on each day: calories burned, minutes of exercise, and moving each hour. Each of these is tracked with their respective graphs that are highlighted in different colors.

Users will also be able to continuously monitor their heart rates through the day. Moreover, much like the Apple Watch, the Galaxy Watch Active will warn users if it detects any irregularities. Eventually, blood pressure monitoring will be available too through the My BP Lab app. This feature has been jointly developed with the University of California, San Francisco and will be available to download on March 15. Initially, though, only consumers in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Singapore, Australia, and Germany will have access to it.

As expected, Samsung’s latest wearable supports a variety of different workout modes in addition to automatic workout detection. Owners don’t need to worry about getting it wet either as the smartwatch is water resistant up to 50 meters.

Release and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active will be available to purchase in four colors (Silver, Black, Rose Gold, Sea Green) and costs $199.99 in the US. You can pre-order the wearable starting February 21 and shipments will begin on March 8. Those who pre-order it tomorrow will receive a free Wireless Charging Pad.

The Galaxy Watch Active will work with any Android smartphone running Android 5.0 Lollipop with at least 1.5GB of RAM. iPhone users will require an iPhone 5 or higher running iOS 9.0 or greater in order to use it.

Samsung Galaxy Fold officially announced

Samsung Galaxy Fold officially announced

The Samsung Galaxy Fold was officially unveiled today during the Samsung's Unpacked event today as the company's first smartphone with a foldable display. Customers will be able to use the Galaxy Fold in a traditional smartphone form factor and open it up to reveal the larger folded display.

Design

In its traditional form, the Galaxy Fold features a 4.6-inch display on with an 840 x 1950 pixel resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio. This makes it rather compact and easy to use with a single hand. But you would notice it is slightly thicker than modern smartphones.

When you need more real-estate you can open the phone like a book to reveal its larger 7.3-inch display, which has a 1536 x 2152 pixel resolution and 4.2:3 aspect ratio. Samsung achieved this by developing a new polymer, which allows the inner display to be 50% thinner than any other screen out there. The usual front and rear of the phone are held together by the display and a powerful hinge.

Samsung claims that this hinge has been specially designed to withstand thousands of folds and unfolds and is made of multiple gears, which Samsung promises will close with a satisfying click.

A fingerprint scanner can be found on the right frame on the device.

The Galaxy Fold will launch in four different colors — Space Silver, Cosmos Black, Martian Green, and Astro Blue. Samsung is even giving customers the option to customize the Galaxy Fold in a combination of pre-set color and side accents to your liking.

Hardware

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is powered by Qualcomm's 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset. There is 512GB of internal storage for your media and 12GB of RAM ensuring that this device will breeze through the most intense tasks.

The handset has been outfitted with two separate batteries on either side of the clamshell design. These batteries give the device a total capacity is 4,380 mAh. The Galaxy Fold is also capable of giving off charge via wireless PowerShare, which lets you place another device on top of it when you are charging it for quick dual charging action.

Camera

Samsung has outfitted the Galaxy Fold with a total of six cameras. On its rear, you have a triple camera setup, made up of a standard 12 MP camera with a variable aperture (F1.5 - F2.4), a 12 MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and an F2.4 aperture, and a 16 MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

On the front of the device (in its closed form) you have a 10 MP selfie camera with an F2.2 aperture.

When you open the device you have another dual camera setup, which combines a 10MP, F2.2 sensor with an 8MP depth camera for portrait selfies.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy Fold will feature Samsung's One UI running on top of Android 9.0 Pie.

Samsung has customized One UI specifically for the Galaxy Fold with features like app continuity, which will allow apps to pick up on one display where you left off on the other. For example, when you want to browse Google Maps on a larger display, simply open up the Galaxy Fold and the app will seamlessly transition to the 7.3-inch display.

Samsung also allows for a total of three apps to be opened on the larger display. A main app on the left side and up to two apps in small windows on the right side.

Release and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be available for purchase on April 26th and will cost you $1920.

Customers in the US will be able to purchase the handset on AT&T and T-Mobile. It's currently unknown if Samsung will offer the Galaxy Fold on CDMA networks like Verizon or Sprint.
