Angry Birds Rio arrived on Windows Phone bringing the full experience of Rovio's movie tie-in game to Microsoft's mobile platform. With 210 levels across seven episodes and over 40 bonus stages, it was a substantial release for Windows Phone owners at the time, and Xbox Live integration meant your achievements and scores were tied directly to your Xbox profile.
The Story
In Angry Birds Rio, the original flock is kidnapped and taken to Rio de Janeiro, where they escape their captors and set out to rescue Blu and Jewel, two rare Spix's macaws and the stars of the animated film Rio. The game pairs the familiar physics-based slingshot gameplay of the original Angry Birds with new mechanics and boss fights inspired by the movie.
What's Included
Seven episodes with 210 levels cover the main campaign, with over 40 bonus levels on top. Hidden fruits are scattered throughout the levels for completionists, and boss fights appear at key points to test your skills beyond standard level clearing. New achievements were added specifically for this release.
Windows Phone 7.5 vs Windows Phone 8
The game was available for both Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 at launch. The key difference between the two versions was Xbox Live support, which was exclusive to the Windows Phone 8 release. Windows Phone 7.5 users could still download and play the full game but without the Xbox Live achievements and leaderboard integration.
