Sony rolls out Android 5.0.2 updates for Xperia Z and Xperia Z1 series devices

Sony has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia Z1, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and Sony Xperia Z1 Ultra. The new update will move the build number from 14.5.A.0.242 to version 14.5.A.0.270.

Sony has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Sony Xperia Z1, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. The update brings Android 5.0.2 along with the 14.5.A.0.242 build number, and is currently rolling out only in certain regions, so it may be awhile before it is available for your device.

Earlier this month, Sony stated that they will be updating their Xperia Z devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop, which suggested that handsets like the Xperia E3Xperia M2Xperia C3Xperia T3Xperia T2 Ultra, and Xperia E1 will remain on an older version of Android. Fortunately the manufacturer has now confirmed that some of the non Xperia Z devices which will be updated to Lollipop.

Last year, Sony confirmed that it will be bringing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its entire Xperia Z series of devices. Unfortunately, it looks like the company has no plans to update the rest of its on-Xperia Z handsets in its lineup.

In case you are not the patient type, you could take a look at our list of OTA zip files, and manually flash the corresponding one one your device.

To flash these, you'll need to have ADB installed and have the Google USB drivers from the Android SDK. You'll reboot your watch into recovery mode, then select "Install Update From ADB." You can then run "adb sideload filename.zip" from a command prompt.
