NVIDIA Shield TV receives Android 9.0 Pie update

NVIDIA has just announced that the highly anticipated Android 9.0 Pie update is now available to Sheild TV owners. The Android Pie update comes with Update 8.0 for the NVIDIA Sheild TV.

With the Android Pie update, the Sheild TV will receive a completely overhauled Settings menu for Android TV, along with a streamlined setup for new users.

One of the most important changes in the update is the addition of Hulu Live TV. A new Hulu app with Live TV integrated will be rolled out to Sheild users after they install the update, giving them access to live sports, news, and events on more than 60 top channels. According to NVIDIA, the app will be rolled out to everyone in the coming weeks.

The update will also include several other upgraded apps including Netflix, Prime Video, FandangoNOW, Twitch, Bravo, SYFY, E!, USA, Yahoo! Finance, XUMO, Lifetime, and MotoGP.

The update also adds GeForce NOW support, allowing users to play PC games on their NVIDIA Sheild, with support for titles like Unknown Fate, SiNKR2, and Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap.

Other enhancements are included in the update as well, which you can read about below:
  • Updates “Display and Sounds” advanced setting into two easier to navigate menus.
  • Adds option to match content color space (Settings > Display & Sound > Advanced).
  • Improves volume dynamic range for USB and Bluetooth connected headsets.
  • SHIELD TV remote app adds Bluetooth assist for pairing and improves connection.
  • Enables 720p refresh rate switching on supported apps.
  • Adds “Disconnect Bluetooth accessories” option to quick settings.
  • Adds IR power control options to customize on/off functionality.
  • Adds option to turn off USB power when SHIELD sleeps.
  • Adds option to connect to 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network with shared SSID.
The Sheild Experience Upgrade 8.0 (with Android Pie) is rolling out starting today, but it may take a few days to reach all Shield TV units, so don't worry if you don't see the update appear on your device immediately.
