Apple’s iOS 13 was first announced officially on June 3rd at the WWDC, followed by the first beta which was released to developers. Now after a few weeks of testing, Apple is ready to seed out the first public beta of iOS 13.

Apple’s newest version of iOS once again heavily focusses on performance, but additionally includes a few new features as well. Among them is the highly requested system-wide Dark Mode, an overhauled Photos app along with improvements to the Camera, Maps, Reminders apps, and keyboard. You can learn more about iOS 13 here.

In order to download the iOS 13 public beta, you will require one of the following compatible iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, devices

In order to initiate the process head over to beta.apple.com on your device browser in order to enroll it in Apple’s beta program.

Backup

Backing up your device is extremely important if you want to downgrade back to iOS 12 from the beta

Before you install the update, it is recommended that you perform a full backup of your iOS device on iTunes. If you are on macOS Catalina already, select your device from Locations in the Finder sidebar. Create a backup then click Manage Backups to Archive your backup.

The next step is to switch over to your iOS device and open beta.apple.com/profile. Download the profile, then go into your Settings app and check for updates. The beta should show up and allow you to install it.

Keep in mind that you should only install the public beta if you are comfortable with experiencing bugs in normal usage of your phone.

How to install iOS 13 public beta on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

Once you have followed the steps above, installing the iOS 13 public beta is as simple as following the steps below

Step 1) Go to Settings > General > Software update and then you should see the iOS 13 beta available for download. Press the “Download and Install” button.

Step 2) After the beta has been downloaded, your device will reboot. Once it boots up again, it will be running the beta software.

How to downgrade to iOS 12 from iOS 13

Step 1) Connect your device to a computer and launch iTunes.

Step 2) Set your device in Recovery Mode:

  • On iPhone XS/Max/XR/X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.
  • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don’t release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
  • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Don’t release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.

Step 3) iTunes will prompt you to restore your device and therefore reset it back to its factory defaults.

Step 4) Once your device has been restored, sign up with your Apple ID and restore the full iTunes backup you previously created
