Google Nexus 9 factory images released

Google Nexus 9 (front)The Google Nexus 9 was officially released yesterday, which also makes the official release of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Google started off by releasing the Lollipop source code along with the code for all their Nexus devices to AOSP. Today the company has released their first factory images for Android 5.0 Lollipop, and the recipient is the brand new Nexus 9.

The factory image is not meant for the general user, and is more aimed at the advanced few who root their devices and install custom ROMs. Those who change the state of their Nexus 9 software will be able to use the factory images to revert back to its original state. Unfortunately, custom ROMs for the Nexus 9 are still a while away, because the source code alone isn't enough to make a working ROM. We still have to wait on the driver binaries, which can sometimes take a while.

Google has still to rollout Android 5.0 to other devices, and no other factory images have yet been released. Usually the factory image will come around the same time as the OTA rollout. Google has claimed Android 5.0 would be coming to Nexus devices soon, but we won't know when until it happens.
