[Android app] Email

EMail for AndroidGoogle continues to detach its stock apps from Android, with the release of EMail on the Google Play Store. It's the Email app you know and love from Android, but with a few added features. For the initial Play Store debut, Google has beefed up security (in unspecified ways) for Gmail accounts, improved the account setup flow, added printing to the app, and fixed "other bugs."

You can download the app (or update) directly on your device through the Google Play Store or by using the following link:

Its great to see more of Google's apps released on the Play Store. This will obviously allow Android updates to be smaller in future as the core system wouldnt need these apps to be pre-installed. It also reduces each apps dependency on OS-level updates, allowing Google to make everything better without a major release.

That said, the Email app isn't available for all devices just yet. Recent Nexus devices can grab the update, but beyond that compatibility is hit or miss. Notably, even the Google Play Edition devices like the HTC One M7 and Samsung Galaxy S4 aren't eligible. Google should be extending this update eventually, so leave us a comment if you have the update on your Android device.
