Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview is now available

Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview is now availableMicrosoft delivered on its promise and released a working build of Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. The update is available to developers, but non developers can also get a chance at the latest version of Windows Phone by simply signing up for a developer account (for free).

If you have a Windows Phone 8 device and are willing to give up your warranty until the official update comes up, you must carry out a very specific procedure.

downloading Windows Phone 8.1 Developer PreviewBefore installing the update, keep in mind that the update doesn't include Nokia's Windows Phone 8.1 customization.  That update will be released as a later time as an upgrade the current Developer Preview. You also won't be able to downgrade to Windows Phone 8 if you experience problems after the early update, but you should receive new updates until the final version of Windows Phone 8.1 is released to your device.
  • Visit the Windows Phone App Studio website
  • Sign in with your Microsoft account and create a project
  • Download the Preview for Developers app on your Windows Phone 8 device and sign in with your Microsoft Account
  • The phone should detect the Windows Phone 8.1 update is available
Cortana which is also available in beta with this update, will only be available for US residents. However feel free to change your smartphone's location and use it in exchange for any local functionality you might be trusting upon. Also, custom lock-screen isn't available in the developer preview version. But Action Center is, and for some of you, it might be worth the update on its own.
