With Windows Phone 8.1 your Lumia 820 will get access to great new features like Cortana, a personal virtual assistant built to manage your life. Cortana will allow you to set reminders by people as well as by time or location. Your device will also get several other features and enhancements including the Action Center which manages your incoming notifications along with the ability to set a background wallpaper for your Live tiles. When will my device receive Windows Phone 8.1

The update will be pushed out OTA to handsets running Windows Phone 8.0, and users are advised to have their battery fully charged and their devices connected to Wi-Fi before downloading the update. Considering that this is likely a staged rollout, it will be a while before all users see the update. You can also manually check for the update on your device by heading to Settings > Phone Update > Check for Updates.

Nokia Lumia Black Update now rolling out for Lumia 920 and Lumia 820


The Nokia Lumia Black software update first started rolling out for the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Nokia Lumia 925. Now the latest version of software for Lumia devices is headed to the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820.

The update brings lots of new features, improvements in imaging, app updates and new Nokia apps, like: Refocus, Beamer, Storyteller and Camera to the devices.


The Lumia Black update also brings a series of enhancements from Microsoft to Lumia smartphones, include: Safe Driving Mode, Customised Ringtones, New Multitasking and Screen Rotation Lock.

Unofficial Amber ROM available for Lumia 920 and Lumia 820


While users are waiting for the Windows Phone Amber update to arrive on their devices, impatient  and  users could consider installing an unofficial ROM of the update which has leaked out for both devices. Keep in mind however that since this ROM is unofficial, you wont be eligible for official updates while you have this installed. Additionally you will have to wipe all your data if you choose to install this ROM, so proceed with caution.

This ROM includes the GDR2 update from Microsoft, which brings the FM radio to compatible devices and the Data Sense app which allows you to track your data usage by telling you which apps are using most of your monthly allowance while reminding you how many days are left in your billing cycle.

The ROM also includes the Amber update which is Nokia's inclusions to GDR2 exclusive for their Lumia lineup. You will get the Smart Camera app with the Action Shot mode, which allows you to snap an action sequence and have it come out as one photograph. You always get the always-on clock and the double tap-to-wake among other features and enhancements.

Nokia Lumia 820 for AT&T receives (1134) software update


The Nokia Lumia 820 for AT&T is now receiving the 1232.5962.1314.0001 software update which brings improved automatic display brightness adjustment, Fix for screen blanking during a call, Fix for connectivity issues in certain network conditions and a couple performance and stability improvements.

You can check for the update availability by heading to Settings > phone update on your device and click Check for Updates. If the update is available you can install it on your device OTA (over-the-air)


The 1134 update for the Nokia Lumia 820 has the following new features and improvements:

Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 820 and Lumia 620 coming to Vodafone on February 6th



Vodafone UK has announced the the Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 820 and the Nokia Lumia 620 will be available on its network starting February 6th. The carrier has announced that they have concluded their tests on the devices and that they are now ready for public consumption.

The Lumia 920 is the company’s flagship featuring a 4.5 inch PureMotion HD+ touch display, up to 32GB of internal storage, an 8 megapixel PureView camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

The mid range Lumia 820 features a 4.3 inch touch display, 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

The entry level Lumia 620 features a 3.8 inch touch display, 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video capture, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM.

The devices will join the HTC Windows Phone 8X and the HTC Windows Phone 8S on the carrier’s network giving users a wide selection of Windows Phone 8 devices to choose from. Pricing and details for these devices will be announced soon.

International Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 receive Portico software update



The international variants of the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820 are now receiving the Portico software update, which has already made its way through the U.S. devices. Generally the unlocked variants are the first to receive a new software update. However Nokia decided to switch things up this time.

The update which is officially known as PR 1.1 by Nokia carries the O.S. version 8.0.10211.204 and is reportedly being pre-installed in new Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 devices. The PR 1.1 update has the following new features and improvements:
  • Fix for the camera which allows it to capture higher quality photos. Previously photos are reported to be blurry even during daylight.
  • Always-on feature for Wi-Fi connection, which allows it to stay on even when the display is locked.
  • Ability to reject or ignore a phone call with an SMS
  • Improvements to Bluetooth connectivity and reliability.
  • Improved battery management
  • Fix for an issue which causes phone to freeze or reboot.
  • Improvements to Internet Explorer mobile
The update has started rolling out OTA (over-the-air) and will continue to reach several devices until the end of next month. Nokia suggests that you keep your battery fully charged and stay connected to your Wi-Fi connection before you download the update. The update process should take around 30 minutes

Nokia has released the PR1.1 software update to the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820 for users in the US and Canada. The update (1232.5951.1249.0001) brings improved performance, imaging capabilities and battery management to the devices. We have been hearing about this update for some time now under its code-name Portico, but it is also labeled as PR 1.1 which is a familiar form of updating Nokia Lumia handsets.

The update will be made available to your device OTA (over-the-air) and you don’t have to connect it to your computer to get the update. You can check for the update by heading over to Settings > Phone Update > Check For Updates and make sure you have your Wi-Fi connection enabled in order to initiate the update.



Make sure that your battery is charged or that you are connected to a power source before you start the update. The entire process can take around 30 minutes to complete. Once the download is complete, select Install and the update will be installed on your device.

Once the update is completed select Done and restart your device. Head over to Settings > About and check if the Software Version has been updated to 1232.5951.1249.0001

The update brings the following new features and improvements to the Nokia Lumia 820 and the Nokia Lumia 920:
  • Enhancements in Messaging
  • More efficient and reliable Bluetooth connectivity
  • More efficient and reliable start-up sequence
  • Enhancements in imaging performance and battery management
  • Additional platform updates and enhancements


Nokia and Microsoft are working with their partners and carriers to bring the update to international Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 by February 2013.

Nokia releases an update for its Super Sensitive touchscreen on the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820




One of the biggest advantages of the new Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820 is its Super Sensitive touchscreen which allows you to interact with the display even if you are wearing gloves. Nokia has now released a minor system update Display + Touch version 1.1.2.4 for its Lumia  Windows Phone 8 smartphones which is said to improve the performance of the touch sensitivity of the displays.

You will receive a notification when the update is available for your device through the Windows Phone Store and you will have to wait until the notification arrives before you can install the update.


There are no specifics on what changes the update has to offer, but Nokia has stated the following:

The Lumia 800 actually booted up faster than the Lumia 820 which was quite a surprise. The next test compares opening stock apps and both devices fair quite evenly. This shows that even though the Lumia 820 is significantly more powerful than the Lumia 800, the Windows Phone 8 OS requires much more resources to operate. The third test compares IE 10 on the Lumia 820 with IE9 on the Lumia 800. Here the Lumia 820 seems to have an edge. The fourth test is for third party apps, and the Lumia 820 wins this round.

The end user experience is also quite pleasant with Windows Phone and Nokia exclusive apps like Nokia Maps, Drive and City Lens.
