Samsung Gear S officially announced with curved display and 3G connectivity

Samsung Gear S

The Samsung Gear S was officially announced today by the company as yet another Tizen powered "smart wearable device". The Gear S features a 2 inch Super AMOLED display, 3G connectivity along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and a curved design which fits comfortably around your wrist.

The 2 inch display has a 360 by 480 pixel resolution. The other specs on this device include a 300mAh Lithium Ion battery with promises up to 2 days on a single charge, IP67 certification which will allow your device to be submerged in up to 3.2 feet of water for as long as 30 minutes and a 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM.

Because it has 3G connectivity, your Gear S will no longer be tied to your smartphone for notifications and messages. You can also make phone calls directly from your wrist, or receive a phone call forwarded from your phone. With Tizen powering the device you get built-in features like the battery saving Power Saving Mode, Samsung's enhanced S Voice functionality, which allows voice commands, turn-by-turn pedestrian navigation powered by HERE, Facebook to stay up to date with your social connections and a Financial Times 'fastFT' app which works together with Spritz' advanced-reading technology.

The Gear S is the perfect companion for those who track their health and are concerned with staying in shape. Sensors, GPS capability and S Health features, are just what the doctor ordered. And the Gear S didn't forget about you runners. The Nike+ Running app allows you to leave your smartphone at home while your wearable keeps track of your running stats for the day, and keeps you motivated.

The Samsung Gear Circle headphones were also announced on Thursday. These headphones can be paired with a smartphone, using Bluetooth, to allow you to take calls, listen to music, and make voice commands. A vibrating alert tells you when a call or notification is coming through, and a magnetic lock clasps around the users neck when the Gear Circle is not being used.
