Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo officially announced

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo
Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Gear 2 and the Samsung Gear 2 Neo - two brand smart watches which hope to succeed the Samsung Galaxy Gear.

The Gear 2 comes with a 2MP camera, which has now been built into the main body of the camera instead of being part of the strap like the original Galaxy Gear.

Both smart watches have an identical 1.63 inch display with a 320 by 320 pixel resolution, which should be adequate for general use. The devices are both powered by 1GHz dual-core processors (of unknown make) which should hopefully offer good battery life and performance. The best part of the design is that Samsung has made both smart watches water resistant with IP67 certification.

The Gear 2 Neo is the cheaper, lighter, camera free version of the two. But other than for that there are very few differences between the two, aside from some minor differences in their dimensions and color options.

On the software side, these two devices are powered by Tizen, but Samsung unfortunately hasn't mentioned anything specific about this, aside from the fact that users should have access to "an enriched application ecosystem". Still, the manufacturer has made sure that its new wearables will be able to offer some neat features to allure customers. For starters, there's going to be a standalone music player with headset support that's going to let you enjoy your music even when you don't have your phone close to you (which, we guess, happens quite rarely). In addition, the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will offer "personal fitness coaching in real time" - this should set you up with a personalized fitness routine, as well as heart rate monitoring. Besides these smartwatch-like features, the new Gears are also going to let you control compatible electronic products, such as TVs and set-top boxes.

You'll be able to purchase the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo starting from April, but Samsung has chosen not to reveal the pricing for them yet. In terms of color options, the Gear 2 will be coming in Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange, while the Gear 2 Neo will come in Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange.

Would you consider picking one of them up if Samsung has a more reasonable pricing than the Galaxy Gear? Leave us a comment and let us know.
